True, but you never know. I think that one in particular is more likely to encourge most girls to be well, girly (ok, so I'm not that girly

). But you never know. There could be one in every....1000 players who might want something more from a game.

I think it also mentioned something about advertising beauty products in the game itself.... I'm surprised that different companies haven't thought of that already for most games. After all, we have ads everywhere else...

It's funny, isn't it, that we don't think of ourselves as "girlie" that often. I loved the Halo series, specially the multiplayer, but I also like the Sims. Where does that put me?

And it says that the number of female gamers is on the increase. It's estimated that by 2012 the number of female gamers will be the same as male gamers.

LOL - i think i didn't explain that properly!!!

I meant that i dont think of female gamers as YOUNGER than 14/16.
Whereas the new generation of gaming often involves young girls too!

In the beginning.... (about 1982) I played and owned a few Game & Watch devices and played on the Atari at a mates house, a few years later I got an Amstrad CPC 464 which was a "personal" computer but I used it for games, it had a tape drive and most games took 20 minutes to load. The first console I actually owned was a Sega Master System 2 back in the early 90's. I sold it at a swap meet for $50 (I only had 2 games with it, Sonic the Hedgehog and Mickey Mouse & the haunted castle) consoles fell out of favour with me for well over a decade as I have had a PC by then to play games on, then I met and married a hubby who builds increasingly powerful computers and we play games on those.

My Wii conversion came when hubby went to daycare and played on the Wii they have there and came home raving about it and rushed out to buy one the next day.

Whilst I was on holiday my friends had a PS2 and I looked at the controller and shuddered at the large array of buttons on it, the Wiimote is so simple to use and elegant to look at.

My daughter has been gaming since she was about 3 or 4, she started out sitting on my knee whilst I played Tomb Raider and The Longest Journey.

It's the same as any form of male/female advertising. For Fathers day, advertising of ties and socks becomes abundant, for mother's day, it's all the floral crap, and kitchen gear. It's not sexist, they're not telling us what we can or cannot play, it's just them aiming at what the average consumer wants. Look at that article Cherrona posted, it stated what type of games each sex preferred. It doesn't become sexist, or a segregation of sorts, until someone looks at it like that, and gets offended for no reason.

That article was quite interesting, Cherrona. I had no idea the percentage was so high, and if we are to believe it then it's only going to get higher, and we'll apparently take over the market one day

So does that mean we'll get more games aimed at a female market? Or are they going to start doing what Djinn suggested, trying to aim games to both sexes. And while they're at it, if the average a

But you know, if games are made just to target female gamers, I doubt many would be any good due to stereo types. It will be interesting to see what happens though...

Insectoid, it is interesting to see how certain things are advertised for different people. A little while back there were deals for pink PS2s in a bundle pack with some Barbie game.
I don't know how many girls got those for Christmas though. lol
