lol If only that were possible. Wouldn't it be great if in the next GTA you could slaughter a certian number of cops, then they learn to leave you alone and let you do what you want to who you want...

Try playing with police deactivated. It's no fun without the police and that element of danger.

Hmmm.
There's really only one way to put this.
Girl gamers aren't new.
They've been around for some time.
The number of female gamers is however small.
Male gamers make up almost the entire gaming population.
Software companies have tried to aim games at a completely female audience to entice girls to become consumers rather then gamers, but these have thus far proved to be awful.
I think the only way for games to evolve is to take girl gamers seriously. Their input will allow true evolution and provide more finely polished and interesting games for all. Games that appeal to everyone instead of "one sex or the other".
In short all girl gamers stand up and make some noise. Your holding back my games!!

Well, it was a really long time between saying stupid things for me so I had to put that last bit in.

Right here. What? You can't say I'm not.

LostDjinn, it's true that girl gamers aren't new. But I believe that there are more of us than you think.

Anyway, if given the opportunity, how many people here would try to get into developing video games?
I'm not just talking to the girl gamers either. lol
But you know, I think I already know the answer to my question (if not everyone, then almost everyone lol I know I would ).

Cherrona, I think you're right, I think there are a lot more out there than would prove to be obvious. But where are they all then? Why don't they chose to stand out?

Djinn, you do make a good point. If they stop aiming games at one sex or the other, instead aiming them at people in general, it would not only mean a more rounded gameplay experience for both sexes, but would cater for a broader range of personality types in general.

So what do you think it would mean for games if they do this? Start targeting females in these normally male dominated games? What do you think girls want more of in games?
Could it be that they would try adding more emotion to their games, making for more indepth storylines? Would we be seeing some femlaes popping up in the ranks of games such as Call of Duty?!
What do you think?

I'm going to suggest that you post that on my ds, in it's own little thread. Then I'm going to point out the fact that just because we're all female, doesn't mean we all have the same tastes in games. Girls have different preferences and tastes in games, just like guys do. It would depend on what kind of person she is, what she likes, how old she is - and all that would take up far too much space for something off topic. It would be a good thread all by itself, would be interesting to see what everyone thinks you should buy her.

Hi ladies (and guys),

I've been lurking on the forum for a while and thought i'd join this thread.. I've been gaming since I was a kid (nearly 28 now).. it started on my dads intellivision console - space invaders and night stalker.. then progressed to my grandfathers pc - captain comic and duke nukem where i developed an obsession with computers and wanted to be able to write my own games (I'm a programmer now - not games unfortunately but BI/Analytics type stuff).

As a teenager had a gameboy and at the moment we (me and the boyfriend) own a n64, xbox (modded) and since christmas a wii. I'm halfway through Zelda TP at the moment and am refusing to play anything else till i finish (cant wait to start on mario galaxy!)

I think there's a lot more girl gamers than people think, but agree that most of the games are developed for guys.. I'm pretty different to most the girls I know - too much of a tech nerd

anyways, great thread! feel free to pick my brain anytime!

inuyasha09 I agree with Omi - not all girls are going to like the same games - I love the RPGs so I'd go for Zelda TP if she likes the simpsons then you could try that game.. i have it but havent started yet (see previous thread )

good luck!

Good on y'all girl gamers, seems more women are getting into gaming lately which can only be good for the guys. Sure us guys might have to play a few games that we might not be into to keep the better half happy and maybe even have to learn to share our consoles, but it has to be better than getting earbashed because they don't understand or like play console games. P.S. Misswii, I like your avatar. Don't worry though, when it grows up it should look like a real dog. Lol. I,m only joking Misswii, I love dogs and got a soft spot for terriers. I got a terrier aswell, only mines a different type of terrier and a lot bigger.

Started along time ago with some kind of sega, i would have been about 5ish. It was my brothers but i rememeber playing Alex the kid on. Since then I have gone through, game boy pocket, game boy colour, playstation nintendo 64 and game cube. I am currently waiting patiently for harvey normen to get more wii consoles in stock since they are the only people who would accept the $500 in indooroopilly shopping centre gift vouchers that I won. My partner also has a playstation 2 nintendo 64 nes original game boy and game boy colour. So between the 2 of us we currently have 1 nes, 1 nintendo 64, 1 playstation 2,1 game cube, 1 original game boy and 2 game boy colours.

Welcome to the board MissWii, Angrygirl and mcshelly!
Always great to meet some fellow gamers!

Continuing along the lines of the gender directed games, what do you think of this???

www.theage.com.au/

Ok so personally, i wont dismiss this kind game too soon, at least until i get more details. Really though, it depends on how well the storyline is executed. Are the players just women at the spa selecting their treatments? Or is there a business objective?

Looking at it from this article, it seems a game like this has over simplified women, and is avertly sexist and stereotypical of female gamers. However, do these kinds of games maybe attract those women who haven't had any interest in gaming before.

What do you think?

I hardly think you could even call it a game could you? I'd complain to them. It's insulting.

Hmm, I would probably check out that beauty game just for a laugh, but I think they're direceted at females gamers who aren't that serious about games.
I doubt there would be much of a story or objective though.
lol Unless you count the companies involved making money.
But you never know, it could get young girls hooked on gaming.
So, no, I don't think it should be dismissed completely. Well, not yet...

You never know. Looking back at all the old games no-one could believe that they would have led to what we have now. And why? Because those freaky old games got someone so into gaming that they wanted to make some even better games.

Good point Cherrona - there's definitely room for plenty of improvement on that one! Although people downloading games from a site to beautify a random chick might not necessarily lead to a gaming obsession
