Any tips for what character/vechile to use? I'm alwyas using wario and on the standard bike.. gets me through it I guess.
Is funky kong good? I wanted to get him and i'm just starting to do time trials right now.

its easy just dont get hit by blue shells

Though I cannot do manuel, it's really difficult considering I've finished the game with auto. So i've raced in auto and got one star in two races... the others a difficult

I got a three star ranking and I have only used manual once or twice ever.
I use a medium character and the Mach bike.
A star ranking depends on how well you drive.
Stay off the dirt, dont hit obstacles or powerups on the ground, dont fall of cliffs, stay on the track for as much as possible, mono on every straight and drive as fast as you can.
You wont get punished for being hit by blue shells, red shells or other cheap items but you must be in first place for the majority of the race.
Try to get in front within the first 1/4 of the course. Do the boost start, get the first item when you're in about 7th/5th, use it to get to first place and dont let anybody near you.
Drive like its a time trial. You will be sure to get a star ranking.
