I use the Mach Bike which is the second bike for the medium characters. Use any medium character you like - I use Daisy.

I also use auto drift.

Use the boost start (hold accelerate just after the second beep and as soon as you see the number 2 fade) and try to get ahead of the pack.

If you arent first by the first 3/4 lap, then restart.

Rumours are the star ranking is based on either speed (try to beat them by as much as you can each race) or number of firsts (ie - 4 races x 3 laps = 12 possible firsts. You may need 10)

Always drag an item behind you. Always. This will stop red shells.

Rotate your items. ie - just before the item box, let go of the item you are dragging, drag your current item, and pickup another.

Upside down question boxes are useless and if you get one, discard it when you discard your dragged one.

Blue shells will mess you up. Particularly those on the last lap. If you finish second, you cant get a 3 star rank.

POW blocks can be avoided by rapidly tapping up on the d-pad, but some are timed so well by Ninendo you end up off a cliff or into the lava. In which case restart.

Lightning will cause you to lose all items, do what you can to get to the question boxes quickly.

i know that sucked, i kept getting green shells and that lightning cloud too often, just wasnt my day other than that u did a great job

oh tell me about it, trying to get 3 stars in mirror courses made me go crazy some nights by random events of bad luck, i think to say that i restarted some cups at least 20-30 times would be an understatement
