I can't tell you about Aero in Vista, but my 7900GS runs all games, the most recent being Medal of Honor: Airborne, very smoothly.

If you want the 8800, go for the HD2900XT. A much better card with the new drivers. I used to be an nvidia fanboy, but now these ATI cards have made me want to switch.

8500GTs are like $100 cards.
8600GTSs are pretty decent, and the 8600GT is okay.
8800GTS 320/640. Fairly decent, suck with old games though because the memory isn't allocated correctly. Very laggy in some games.
8800GTX are good. They have a good memory size. They stick to numbers divisable by 256/128.
And 8800Ultra are the best nVidia has to offer. I haven't seen one of these myself.

And the ATI cards i've seen:
2600XT: Better than the 8600, just.

And, I've heard that tyhe HD2900XT is mind boggling.

Check tomshardware.com for proof.

I bought my Xpertvision Geforce 8600GT 512MB Card off ebay brand new for $220 which i think is worth it if you wanna put $20 more on your budget. I can play every game i have (even Bioshock) maxed out.

Well i'm guessing if it can handle that game, then it should be able to handle Vista Aero.

Actually, no. Like Bioshock, MOH: Airborne is built on Unreal Engine 3, which is very scalable and which has very reasonable requirements.
