Red Steel - 7/10

Red Steel is hardly the best game on the Wii, or the best FPS out at the moment. It's just plain fun.

I got this game for free, questioning whether I should've gotten Rayman instead. After playing for 15 minutes, I thought to myself, "****, I've just wasted a good opportunity of getting a good free game."

I finished Zelda a few days later and popped Red Steel back in. After another 15 minutes I realised maybe I didn't make a mistake.

Well, onto the real review! xD

The gameplay is pretty good, but sometimes non-responsive. Aiming is easy, but depending on how you hold the controller your arm might get tired. Reloading with the nunchuk was an original idea, but your wrist will hurt (or not?) after reloading a lot. Throwing grenades, I'm not so hot about. Not really sure how to control how far you throw it.
Sword fighting is pretty fun. The game lags behind your movements slightly, but it isn't too worrying. It'd be so much cooler they mixed sword and gun fighting.

Graphics... everybody says that they suck, but I think they're great. Textures are good, character models look good, explosion effects are great.

The game can be buggy, and the physics are a bit weird. The first time I played it was ****house. The game lagged, the subtitles were behind the people talking and Sato fell into the ground when I first met him. BUT, the next time the game played perfectly.

Multiplayer is alright. I've only tried it once. Plays well, split screen isn't too bad. The only problem is that the maps are too big, and there aren't enough. We spent most of the time playing looking for eachother and as soon as somebody spotted somebody else, they were dead in a second or two.

Overall, Red Steel is worth a purchase, IF you like FPS games. I'm not a serious fan, but I like to play FPS games occasionally. One funny thing I've noticed is that I always play Red Steel in 30 minute intervals... it's not as engaging as Zelda, but if you play it on and off, you'll enjoy it.

I highly agree with Zhaz with Red steel, its good in short periods of play but almost makes you wonder if the story line has a point when played for a long period.

I say that because it just seems like the repetitive cartoon backgrounds... sword fight, shootout, sword fight ,shoot out, shoot out sword fight etc.

IF your deciding to purchase this game, please rent first.

I got this game just before Christmas, and I do agree with you. It isn't the greatest game, but it fulfils my urge when I just feel like shooting things up with the Wiimote.

And absolutely right about the play time - it is an on and off game, I only have played it for 40 - 50 minute spells at a time, but I can't play it like Zelda, which I played for up to 6 hours at a time when I'm not working.
