I've got a Wii that was bought during launch weekend back in '06, and I've got a wiikey in it, however I'm unsure of the firmware of the chip. (I think maybe 1.9b)

The console's running 3.0E.

I want to update it so I can play Mario Kart- is my best bet to update the wiikey, then the wii (or vice versa?)
I've also read I need to install the update that's on SSBB to play Mario Kart- is this correct?

Sorry if I'm stupid and/or this has been answered elsewhere

EDIT: have you actually put the disc in and see if it works? as long as it is pal it won't brick it....

are you suggesting don't brick block?

well for mine....i just burnt without altering anything and it worked fine....maybe try it without WBB

EDIT: ie it actually needs to perform and update....

no ....not that i know of...there hasnt been any pal games that can break you wii....

although get someone to confirm this

i am on 3.2E which incorporates the dual layer update....you prob best to update...dw it won't kill you wiikey....nothing so far has had the ability to ....

well for the last 3 updates that i did...that screen has come up and i have choosen to ignore it....and my wii is still fine

Can I update my wiikey from whatever it is (I think 1.9b) to 1.9s in one step, or do I need to get the incremental firmware updates?
My thought processes would say as it's a flash of the memory on the chip it probably would work going from anything to 1.9s- but I just wanted to check this made sense.

i think the update is nyumbered 3.2 because it isnt actuall updating the console, but is just preparing it for a future update. but i am not sure, i havent researched this topic in a while so i may be wrong.

EDIT: Can't find anything...i think it must be the latest...although i do recall updateing to 3.2 then a few weeks i updated again but still is 3.2 (so an update but no new version name)

My wii with wiikey still works if you r worried that is...

Can someone give me step-by-step instructions on how to install an update? Do you just copy the .iso to a CD and insert it into the Wii?

I have a Japanese Wiikey-modded Wii.

I used the Windows version of burning; drag-and-drop onto the CD drive and select 'write these files to disk' on a Maxell MQ DVD-R. However, I put it in my Wii and nothing happened except for a disk read error.

Am I doing everything right except for one step or something? HELP. >_>

No there are quite a few chips out there. Maybe ask the guy who installed it, or I think there's something on www.ozmodchips.com.au that may compare the serial of your Wii to the chip that was needed/installed. Whether they include JAP consoles also, I am not sure. Probably if you Google your Wii serial with something like modchip then you may gather some more info. Good luck.
