Wii sports review - 8/10

What is the Nintendo Wii? I see people waving remotes around in the commercials but is this really fun?

Wii sports aims to answer both questions in a bid to give fans, new gamers, and stubborn fans of other consoles a taste of how the Nintendo wii will change the way video games are played.

And Wii sports is pretty much a statement - the graphics arent gorgeous but you have never played video games like this before.

Each gamer is going to like their own game and argue furiously on the forum which one is the better one. Perhaps it was the inclusion of boxing in this title that could solve the dispute once and for all.

Once I get my Mii ranked a few more levels then I can use it to go three rounds with anybody who doesnt think the Golf title is the best title out of the 5.


Tennis is too dull for my liking because all you get to do is swing the racket. And I will throw baseball in this category.

Play these first, giggle like an idiot as the baseball bat moves backwards when your hand does, and forwards as you swing it - and then dive into the three titles you will play for a long time to come.


Bowling is good fun - with or without the aid of drinking. The true charm of the bowling game lies in training mode where you knock over 100s of pins with the one ball.

Boxing is also good fun. Sometimes you feel it is unresponsive, but it is very satisfying when you finally knock down an opponent who has beaten you so many times you start revisiting older boxers.


Golf is amazing fun. The only shame is that there are only 4 clubs, 9 holes and one course. Its like a tease. We can hope Nintendo will one day throw 6 full 18 hols courses around this title, with all clubs, and different weather.

But despite that its something me and my brother continue to play. And having read reviews of upcoming golf games is seems game designers are too obsessed with complicating the hit engine instead of sticking with the very simple "move club back, move club forward like real life" formula that sees this as an awesome experience.

The other thing parents - is buy your chubby kids a wii for their birthday because they will actually get a work out as they play.

Dont let them have desert until they go a few rounds in boxing - make them work for that chocolate bar.


Although this is more of a sample instead of a full fledged game - it is a great experience and a momento to the gaming us wii users will be experiencing as wii exclusive games are brought out.
