Wii Sports - Innovative and just plain old fashioned fun for all. - 8/10
Wii Sports is a game that basically explains itself - it is a game comprising of an assortment of sports that are played utilizing the innovation of the Wii Remote and Nunchuck.
With an easily mastered learning curve, ergonomic prowess, and limitless hours of fun, this review will explain how although a very basic and, dare I say, not so 'graphically impressive' game holds the capabilities of being unlimited fun for anyone and everyone who picks up a Wii Remote.
Story: There is no story element to Wii Sports, you have a choice of sports to play from - and you play them! Simple, yet effective.
Gameplay: This is where Wii Sports excels. Each of the different games has specific motions/movements of the Wii Remote/Nunchuck in order to play them, for example whilst playing Golf, you hold the remote if you were holding a golf club, Tennis, you can swing in the same manner you would a racket. It is all very simple, yet very satisfying in many ways such as pretty much anyone at all can pick up the remote and play without difficulty, it all feels very natural and for lack of better wording - it just feels good to play.
My only real qualms are with the baseball game - it can sometimes feel a little limited and repetitive in the actions you will perform - yet that is just my personal opinion and in no way would use it to downgrade the gameplay of this satisfying launch title.
Graphics: The graphics in this game aren't what you would call brilliant, but they are in no way a factor that would prevent someone from enjoying this game. I like to view this game as somewhat of a 'demo' of what the Wii is actually capable of, and a prospect of even better and more innovative things to come.
Sound: The sound in this game does what it needs to do in a simple and pleasing way. It isn't anything overly ear catching nor is it anywhere near the awe-factor of other games such as Twilight Princess, but from the crack of the ball on the baseball bat, to the sound of your bowling ball tearing down the alley and smashing into those pins, it does it just right.
Multi-player: This is Wii Sports shining point. I honestly don't think i've ever had so much fun standing in front of a TV with a few mates as I have with Wii Sports. It is something that is truly simple fun to play with your mates, and even your family.
Replay Value: This is a game that you will be able to pick up at any time and have fun playing, that goes double for multi-player, and that is all that needs to be said.
Final Note
Wii Sports is not without faults, but I don't think that its lack of astonishing graphical content or lack of a story, etc, really play a part in describing just how fun this game is, which ultimately is what I believe was the core aspect in the development of this game - fun. Wii Sports is a great deal of fun and as I touched on before, I like to see it as somewhat of a 'demo' of what lays in wait for us Wii gamers in the future.
