WiiFit - 9/10
Wii Fit has been designed to take the sweat, aggression and prohibitive time commitments out of staying fit, and it does it through fun, simple exercises and a very neat piece of technology.
Packed with your WiiFit is a new piece of technology, which is the Wii Fit Board. It stands on four height raising legs and some copper tops. The device is mainly used with your feet and its sensitivity is superb. The platform has a heavy and solid feel to it, which seems to complement the Wii itself. You sync the Wii Fit Board the same way you would do it for your Wiimotes.
As you begin, you are greeted by a cartoony, boucning Wii Fit Board character who acts like the host and takes you through your weight, height and your centre of gravity. After the data is collected it creates your Body Mass Index, this is the fundamental ratio figure that determines if you're under, over or right on the correct weight for your height. The game also figures out your Wii Fit Age and then asks you to set a certain goal for yourself.
As like Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit introduces its own Wii Fit Channel to your home menu. This being if you choose to install it. The channel allows you to check out your BMI stats and your charted progress without having to insert the disc.
All of this is linked to your Mii, and you can invite your friends and family to join in. The game then tracks all of your exercise progress on a calendar that you stamp off each time you use the game.
The modes avaible take full advantage of the Wii Fit Board. You are asked to choose a personal trainer like, either a man or women, with a nice britich accent. You are able to take part in Yoga, Athletic, Muscular and Balance exercise training modes. In each type of mode there is a number of different exercies to choose from. After each exercise you are tracked on your preformance. The exercises are all like-like workouts, from basic breathing and stretching, through to more intensive tests of muscular endurance, posture and smooth control of your limbs. As you go along playing you will unlock new exercises that are avaible to play. There is a simple counter called 'FitCash' which counts the time you have spent on the game. The game also tallies the number of one and two minute sessions you've done through-out that day. At the end of a session, you can even go back and see what impact, if any, the exercise has had on your BMI.
There are also a wide range of events using your Mii characters. Such as hula-hooping, jogging, head-butting soccer balls, ski jumping and many more fun and physical activities. I found the jogging one particular excellent. You do not use the Wii Fit Board for this exercise, instead you pocket or hold onto your Wiimote and jog on the spot. There is also a avaible two player option for the jogging exercise as well.
The presentation and graphics are really a major focus on the game, but it's clean, inoffensive, appealing and very generic. The sound and music are your usual strings, chimes and pop beats to not distract you and keep you in the zone.
Wii Fit is a curious, but logical step forward for Nintendo. The game will be enjoyable for mostly everyone, from all age groups. Its graphics and sound may not be top of line, but with the new Wii Fit Board there is nothing to be disapointed about
Its fun, its enjoyable and most important its good for you, keeping you healthy, fit and active.
