MissWii's Review The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - 9/10

From a girlgamers perspective.. this is my review!

This game, in one word is.... awesome! For several more words read on.....

I was originally caught in the zelda net through playing Majora's Mask on N64, so when we got a Wii this Christmas, the first game I was itching to play was Zelda TP.

The graphics in the game are fairly average, but a definite improvement on N64.. Previous reviews have mentioned the expressions on the characters (Link, Midna etc) as being very expressive, and I tend to agree with them, they clearly convey what they characters are feeling without the need for them to actually speak. I wasn't surprised when I noticed a lot of japanese names in the credits... it just felt kinda japanese (the look of the characters, the sounds that were made)... but thats just my opinion..

The gameplay though, is just awesome - the plot and storyline is very cool, it drags you in and you just want to keep on playing to find out what happens next.

I started the game and didn't want to use any walkthrough, although after running around in circles for a few hours I have to admit, I did resort to IGN's walkthroughs on more than one occasion. I like to refer to using walkthroughs as efficient gaming - this way you get all the benefits of the game plus the satisfaction of getting all the hearts. bugs, compasses and maps If you get frustrated easily though, Zelda TP is not for you - it does take some patience and definitely perseverance to get through the entire game.

The controls were pretty easy to use and most of the bosses were fairly easy to beat.. The only ones I had trouble with were Argorok (the dragon boss in the temple in the sky) and this was only due to the fact that I was playing at obscene hours of the night (after working a 9-5 job) and forgot the benefits of z-targeting (remember, z-targeting is your friend!), and then the final battle with Ganodorf on horseback - and thats only cause I'm unco when I"m on the horse and battling

The battles on horseback did drive me nuts and there were a few other places that were a bit frustrating (the temple in the sky was the worst!) but overall it was an excellent game that I thoroughly enjoyed - it took me just over 50 hours to complete the game - I've read many comments stating that it took much less, but you have to realise that the Wii is our first system since the original Xbox (which has been gathering dust for a couple years) so its kind of my re-introduction to gaming Plus, I'd rather get value out of a game which a) wasnt cheap and b) that I was looking forward to playing for a long time.

The soundtrack to the game was ok, it did border on annoying at some times, but towards the end when I would play after dinner and the b/f would be watching poker on his laptop and I'd have the sound down low, I have to admit that I was missing the background sounds..

I was dreaming of zelda and this game really did take over my life for a few weeks , but thats cool, as this is one very good game that is all encompassing and I"m a bit sad that I've completed it. I hope that Mario Galaxy will compare but I just dont think it will have as much depth as TP - there is so much to do and accomplish, as I said earlier - it just drags you in

So, overall:

Graphics - 6/10
Story - 20/10
Gameplay - 10/10
Sound - 9/10
