The reason for the controls being not "interactive" enough are as follows.
1. The game is actually a port of the Gamecube version which, obviously, does not have motion controls.
2. Because the game was a Wii launch title it was assumed that people would not yet be entirely used to the Wii and it's new way of playing. Therefore the controls were simplified in order to make the game accessible to people not yet used to the motion-sensing gaming.
Didn't you find that the Wiimote allowed you to assume a more natural-feeling possition whilst playing?
