I'm curious to know, has anyone here ever been told by their parents when they were younger that they shouldn't talk to people about their political opinions?

I don't mean anything by this discussion, I was just curious to know whether I was the only one told or other people had that told to them too.

Please the Liberal Government has developed this golden economic era for us pfffttt. It's all do with the world market as far as interest rates go not the Government. When we had high interest rates so did the rest of the world. The mining boom and other factor's equate to our prosperity. The interest rates will be the same regardless of who is in power.

As far as the surplus goes who cares, the point of a Government is to take it's money (from us) and distribute where the funding is needed it is not a business. Also there surplus is not due to their godly economic plans all they did was tax the living ****e out of us. Tell me why petrol is still the same price when our dollar was worth 65c US and is still the same when it's at 90c US.

The current Government bitches about Union officials running the opposition when they are run by big business. Look at the tax breaks and laws brought out over the last 14 years the help the already wealthy and big business that don't need them. (if you don't think the IR laws will affect you think again)

Time for a change i vote Labour.

I think it was a protection so that people don't look at you as a different person just because of your politcal stand point...

Oh, and to probably prevent fights, which is what I am so worried about happening here. It's been good guys, keep it up!

Howard and Rudd are very similar so i would rather vote for the devil i know rather than the devil i don't.

I also want to see costello replace howard. he should have grew some balls and challenged him earlier in the year. at least the libs would have had a chance then.

k.rudd or j.howard... well not being a voter, i can happily say that it honestly doesn't matter what i think about it... but i'd say, soley because the reason that my dad is in a "senior human recources role at his job" and goes for johnny... that i would go for johnny too!

PS... k.rudd probably has some good ideas... but id rather stick with how things are now, than potentianlly increase or descrease the current situation

I would vote for the Greens, but I know for a solid fact that the Greens are never going to come into power.
So rather then waste my vote, I would rather give it to someone who actually has a genuine chance of running the country.
Clearly Rudd is better.
Just look at the polls.
J. Howard - 35%
K. Rudd - 50%
Also, the worm wasn't lying.
The people in that room liked what they heard from Rudd, and didn't like what Howard had to say.
Now that's just a small amount of people, but on average, that's a slaughter in the polls.

Rudd I think. It's always been the lesser of 2 evils. Either way I hope the Health and Education systems get some REAL attention. I hated school and hate going to the doctor. They are appalling at the moment.

I never got told not to talk about it, but I remember my Mum would never tell me who she voted for, even when I was little! I never understood that, still don't. Maybe people will feel like losers if the party they voted for screws up after election.

I'm voting green. Always do. I don't believe in everything they stand for, but they're the only party that really gives a crap about the environment, and that's important to me. Living where I do, and seeing the most beautiful places destroyed just to put money in some *insert horrid word*'s pockets makes me sick. *cough*Gunns*cough*

As for who gets my second preference is still up in the air, more on the Rudd side though I think.

RUDD!! OMG!! Howard is so far up George Bushes a$$ he cant see his own nose. He single handedly increased the chance of a terrorist attack on Australia by helping invade Iraq. The ONLY good thing Howard has done is the Workchoices scheme, and even then it only has worked since the Fairness Test and the Workplace Umbudsman. Rudd has also pledge ALL of Australia to get ADSL2+ within 3-4 years. Howard has had his stint, he's lowered unemployment but increased interest rates. I am totally voting for Rudd. He is 12years younger than Howard, he is better spoken and a proper economic conservatist. He also speaks fluent Chinese, the language of the biggest nation on earth. RUDD FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a side note, I think Ricky Ponting should be sacked as captain of the Australian cricket team in favour of Michael Clarke. Sure Ponting's done a great job and had wonderful success - he's got a great team behind him - but Michael Clarke is much younger and speaks better. I think its just time for a change....Clarke also has more hair...

Sure cricket and politics are apples and oranges, but age and "a time for a change" are not very good reasons. The great thing about democracy is that you have the choice to choose someone on whatever criteria you like - age and hair colour included. But maybe better choices would be made if people looked at more important criteria, and maybe less unfulfillable promises would be made.

Its good to see some different opinions float about here without getting hostile and personal - keep it up - i'm listening!

Howard isn't fit to lead a marching band. 'Children overboard', weapons of mass destruction, the AWB scandal - Howard claimed to have been misinformed, or not informed at all. He's either an liar, or an idiot. Same for his smirking, boarding school buddies, Costello and Downer. He has spent 11 years abhorring the concept of a symbolic 'sorry' to this nation's indigenous peoples, but has suddenly decided there might be votes in it (votes he is desperate to obtain), so he might just think about it, actually. He plays to the basest and ugliest human emotions - fear and distrust; he has interfered with the independence of the media, public service and academia; and protected ministers who should have fallen on their arses, not into diplomatic posts. The gap between rich and poor has grown steadily. This country is meaner, uglier and nastier for Howard's time as Prime Miniature. Stuff facetious cricket metaphors, forget about interest rate rubbish (the government CANNOT control interest rates anymore than they control when the sun rises) and think.

Before George Dubya Bush got elected president, the polls suggested he was highly unpopular amongst the majority of Americans...yet, he still ended up winning the election (by shifty means, no doubt). Whose to say Johnny Howard won't do the same? Afterall, he LOVES Bush so much he's probably trying to make himself into a complete clone of him.

Howard won't be in either way. Liberal, meaning probably Costello will if Liberal win.

On a side note....

Costello was born in 1957 (14th August), Rudd was born in 1957 (21st September) also. So all the people talking about age, that is a silly argument. Also all the people talking about it's a time for change, fair enough if you are talking from liberal to labor as long as you look and understand the arguments.. Each party still has their policies set of course, but comparing this to Howard is again silly.

Costello is one month older then Rudd, so I suppose he is too old also. No one seemed to have answered my question some posts back now. A lot of people hate Costello but no one can seem to give a reason why.

Personally I just think it's fashionable to vote Rudd now, I think he will win actually. What turned me off was the Kevin 07, how Americanized is that? Look at the colours on the webpage BTW.

The Australian flag is Red, White and Blue.........or did you just kind of miss that?

I think the main reason Costello is so unpopular is because he comes out as this dopey, "hurr duurrr wuts goin' on?" type of guy. Someone whose simply living in the shadow of his successor (Howard in this case) and without enough experience to run a country.
I, personally, like Costello. He's more productive than Howard in a lot of aspects and actually gives the Liberals a good name.

Oh yes I did forget about those colours actually, lol. Normally I see Green and Gold. I still don't like the Kevin 07 thing and I still think the colours suck. Maybe something to change the colours, like having an Australia flag at the end of the text would be a little smarter.

EDIT to Myspace: Where's the union jack?!?!?! Does that mean we might become a republic if we vote Labor?

They were talking on the radio how Rudd had all these kids swarming him, kids younger than can vote and then they compared that to the same thing that happened to Chopper. As long as children see someone who has been on TV they do that.

It's unfortuante that someone wants to vote for Rudd for a "change of scenary".

If you own a business and have a fantastic worker that has done well over the past 10 or so years, are you going to replace him simply to change the environment? No, you're not. It's not simple enough to use that as an excuse kids.

To say Howard has to guy because he has lied to much is also a bit silly; give me one politician that hasn't lied in their lifetime in office and I'll kiss your feet. Even the US' best president's lied in their day. It's just part of the deal - politicians lie.

To use Iraq as an excuse is also piss-poor. People really don't understand our insignificant out presence in Iraq is. We're there, granted, but we're also all around the world. Furthermore, it HASN'T opened us up to terroism. Howard Government has done an AMAZING job to counter terroism in this country and we havn't seen it...yet. However, the US and UK have. I've been Heathrow at London and the security is no where near as tight as it is in Melbourne believe it or not. It's only because Heathrow is so big an well-known, that its security is considered "high quality" when smaller nations and airports like Melbourne's and Sydney's are seen as insignificant.

The main issue here isn't Rudd, but rather the Labor party. They easily give into the unions, and unions are not a good thing. Ultimately, they take power away from the people who should have power
