Hmmm, Howard or Rudd, now theres a question...

To me the choice of the two is obvious, Rudd.
John howard is a self pretencious ditherer.
Rudd on the other hand seems more genuine and passionate - he wants a change that the country needs.
Still, Rudd too is lacking in some areas, his policies for the environment are not up to par, though they are a step. He has a good view of the situation in Iraq, which is important, however his understanding and support of Gay Rights is sorely lacking.

In the end though, Rudd seems like a guy who would listen to the country and try hard to meet our needs, which means he can be shown the way - Howard doesnt care about us, he just wants to be PM for the fat pay cheque and ego boost.
He's a bigot and a liar... I hope he doesn't see another term.

I have been looking forward to election day. It is a great day to goto my local primary school and go to the cake sale and sauage sizzle.

I believe that Howard has done a good job for Australia and if he wasn;t going to retire, he could keep doing a good job. Our dollar is hitting record highs. I have been given more pay and starting to buy a new home.

But I believe as well the Rudd will be PM just to the fact the people want change and i hope that just because there is a new face on the field that is this the only reason people are voting for him.

All I hope for is that I keep getting cheaper import games due to our dollar and that Rudd wont do a Paul Ketting and Fu*k that up.

Im going to vote Rudd purely because Costello will become prime minister without ever being an opposition leader if Howard were to be re-elected.

Not that i dont like Costello, personally i think he would be a better opposition leader than a prime minister (to be australias most lmportant full time bagger you have to be a hardass bastard, which we all know Costello is master at, in a totally serious way). It would also show the nation his leadership capabilities. Costello getting the top job straight up doesnt sit well with me.

In my mind you need to at least contest an election and be an opposition leader to be battle hardened to lead our country.

Rudd (pm) vs Costello (opposition) would give a refreshing breath to Australian Politics and some fire in parliament. Passionate battles (for policy not personal gain) in government make for healthy democracy and forward movement in my mind. Australia is lucky to have the luxury to oppose to government without fear of retribution which has made our country properous. Compared to countries like Zimbabwe and North Korea (I would boldly say China however they have been blessed with some good leaders, or so they make it seem) we take the right to oppose and free speech for granted.

(im not old enough to remember, but did Pauk Keating win pm, or get it handed to him by Bob Hawke?)

Doesnt really matter, Labour is too similar to Liberal these days anyway so who cares. I'll go Howard because why change if Australia has done so well under him?

Unless 1 of the partys makes a promise to make Nintendo games come out here earlier and Australia get there own versions then thats another story.

I will be voting for Rudd. Haven't voted for john howard yet, and not going to start this year. All he has really done good is make promises to people that he doesn't keep and throw money at things we don't need.

little pain in the @r$e, plus he just looks like a one man comedy act, he shouldn't be representing our country. ppl already think we are a bunch of crocodile dundees. Now they see a little fat nazi gnome that has nothing better to do than annoy the chasers when all they want is his attention anyway, lol. stupid little fat nazi gnome

Our dollar hittig "record highs" arn't neccessarily a good thing.
Maybe for people wanting to import goods, but think about the the Australian's trying to get by by exporting to big countries like the United States. The higher out dollar goes, the cheaper other countries buy goods and products.

Also, I think the worm pretty much summed up this years election.
I'm voting for Rudd.

Also! You wont be voting for Howard at all. Costello will be taking over if the Coalition continue their reign, so think about that.

I usually donkey vote (last time I made a new box and voted for Mayor Donkey) cause I hate being forced to do anything but I want Labor in so much I'm actually going to vote this time OMG!

Howard annoys me but Costello...can't stand that man and would hate to see him take over.

Talking about people hating Costello, I just want to know why?

It's not that I like Costello, I just hear a lot of people saying they hate Costello but normally don't have a reason.

I don't know a lot about politics and have never voted so I don't really care. I probably should for my parents as they own a small business, I think they will probably vote Liberal. I won't say Howard because he is not going to be there anyway.

I don't know why Liberal don't get Costello talking now if he is the one who will replace Howard. Seeing a lot of people hate him, that's not going to change unless he starts getting people to like him and what's to lose really if he changes no ones mind.

If you are planning on voting Liberal (annirowe, crazynites) you need to take a good hard look at yourself. As for Unions 'running the country' If you believe that then i guess you think the tooth fairy exists too. Come on guys its 2007...

I was not fully decided but the debate has swung me. Unlike most people, especially the media, I looked at the substance of the speakers arguments - not the rhetoric or colour of their ties. The most intelligent arguments all came from Howard, and he was a clear winner on Iraq, "climate change" (should really be called pollution) and general economic plans.

I gave Rudd the opportunity of the debate to show he and his party have genuine plans (not merely copycat tax packages and rhetorical "education revolutions") and all he did was criticise Howard (and most of the criticism leveled at his role as treasure in the late 70's/early 80's).

Although Rudd's oratory skills are, I believe, far better than Howard's, his apparent total lack of knowledge of the basics of how an economy works was astounding. Plucking random figures out of the air (60% reduction by 2050 wtf??) and overusing phrases like "working families" and "educational revolution" may impress some but not me.

I look to substance rather than form. Therefore Howard gets my vote.

I would vote greens too, except that they can't run the country. Something about not having enough power or something, they take all of the votes given to them and pass them on to whoever they decide to ally themselves with (as far as it has been explained to me, could be wrong) so if it is right you could end up voting for the one you really hate by voting for the one you like

Yeah I was think that Mugahay.... And its comments like this that just goes to show the forcefull nature that Labour lives by.... And we can all debate this to the cows come home, but what good will it do? The Question was Howard or Rudd. I say Howard for too many reasons!!

I should make a suggestion but I am in a hurry so will do that later. It looks like when annirowe quoted my post above that I was the one who said the whole thing, like including the Rudd part. The quotes don't keep the person who made the first quote (who I quoted) in what the next person quotes.

I'm sure you could do it yourself but it would be much easier if it was done automatically.

He's got my vote rather then the uptight dickhead howard.
It sorta shows he is human to that we have a real aussie leading us not a fake ass like howard.
