akintolife says:

In addition to my consile gaming, I also play a lot of card games (munchkin & similar) and so do most of my female friends.

I hate card games...mostly because the nerds from the library at our school play them like magic the gathering lol, but i guess its their choice. I would rather stick to gaming!

danie_1986 says:

note it says "Casual"

that means all the pro gamers are guys lol

there are only females left over , only a few make it to the rank of profesional

kojiro says:

you know you're probably right danie, not to be sarcastic or joking, but even though all the stats point to more female gamers, the majority of the 'pro' or 'hardcore' gamers are men.

The proof is everywhere, EB stores, internet forums, console friends lists, friendship circles.

I'll be glad to admit i'm wrong if anyone with an opposing view presents some evidence???

I've just been on the phone to David Attenborough and he confirmed that they are indeed a rare species!

I play tons of games (when I have time, grr). And not just Wii (which is pretty much designed so the whole family will want to play, and tons of girls who normally won't play video games will play wii).

I will play games for hours, ignoring hunger and blurred vision. When I don't have school, I'll wake up, start playing, and only stop once my video-game rage has peaked and my bf tells me it's 'probably time for a break'.

Plus, I let my bf stay up all night playing games if he wants to.

So there you go. They do exist, just in limited quantities.

Well your one of a kind i must say!

your bf is a lucky bastard too!

The amount of arguments ive had over playin games would be astronomical lol.

akintolife says:

I think one of the problem attracting girls to gaming is that a lot of games are designed from a male perspecitve, which doesn't mean girls won't play them, just that in my experience they don't appeal to a large number of girls.

That doesn't mean games have to be girly, because there is no way I'd have ever been interested in something like Barbie's Big Adventure. For me it's simple things, like having the option to play a female character or having a more strategy based game.

The other thing I think stops a lot of girl gamers from being more serious is that it's hard to be accepted as a girl gamer. There's still a lot of people who think that girls are not good gamers and that won't give them a chance to show just how awseome they can be. I am not the most serious gamer in the world, but I have been gaming for a long time now and have seen the suprise that a girl could beat a guy in a game, especially back in the days of Street Fighter, where it seemed there were even fewer girl gamers.

I also think this is one market that the Wii can really make a difference in. I've been seeing more and more non-gamer girl playing things like Wii Sports and even getting their own Wiis because of the experiences. I think part of it is the Wii is the most social consile that's been released, but also there seems to be a lot more games that appeal to both genders and to the less serious gamers, even with such a limited selection currently available than

Yeah in RPG's the percentage of guys playing as female avatars is surprisingly high, something like 60%...

akintolife - you are spot on in so much of what you said. It is so good to hear of a fellow female that loves games as much as me. I love kicking my guy friends' butts just to see the frustration on their faces

I think that guys seem to attack games with their testosterone, whereas girls try to analyze what they're doing. Maybe that's why you don't see many girl gamers - if they have to think about it too much, and still can't master it, they don't have that manly RAAAAHHH to kick in and take over.

It's both humbling and really, really sexy when a girl beats me at anything. They get Brownie points for it.

Most of the girls I know are only casual gamers — stuff like Solitaire on their computer.

You're on. But I must warn you, I'm attuned to the kung-fu of any video game I play.

Aside from non-tactical FPS. I suck horribly at it. And I've never played an Amiga 500, but I used to play Galaga and Guardian a lot on a C64.

Unfortunetly I think it will be a while before there will be any butt kicking online as the announced titles - strikers and pokemon, don't really interest me. I was hoping that Mortal Kombat would be online...

Mario Kart should have it. We need co-op, though.

desi said: It's both humbling and really, really sexy when a girl beats me at anything. They get Brownie points for it.

And when I say Brownie points, I mean it: I may just have to bake something for a girl if she beats me enough. It would have an engagement ring in it.

Omi says:

They would have to be downright stupid not to make Mario Kart online. OOOOO, I'm getting excited just thinking about it!

As for Mortal Kombat - hasn't that been delayed until June? Doesn't online gaming start in June? Could they do it? Do you think??? I wonder...OOOHHH I wish!

That brownie is sounding tasty
