News \ Zelda Q&A

Q: How long is Twilight Princess?

Harrison: There are 70+ hours of gameplay -- it's significantly longer than Windwaker.

Q: What sorts of online features are you looking forward to in the future?

Harrison: Downloadable content, such as additional levels.

Q: Any plans for any type of post-release online component for Twilight Princess?

Harrison: I haven't heard of anything yet. I think everyone is still busy trying to make sure the game gets out correctly.

Q: What sorts of differences are there between the Wii and GameCube versions?

Harrison: There is very little difference in the graphics, although the Wii version supports 16:9 displays. In the GameCube version Link is a lefty, as he has traditionally been. All the fighting and puzzles are reversed because of this, and the game basically mirrors the Wii version -- even the cinemas are flipped.

The story is the same and it's basically the same game, except for the big difference in control schemes.

Q: How much will both versions cost?

Harrison: Both will retail for $50.

Q: Will the GC version only be available for sale online as rumored?

Harrison: No, it will be available in retail stores.

Q: When will the GC version release?

Harrison: December 11th.

Q: What do you say to the Wii's critics who attack the hardware specs?

Harrison: Wii is trying to expand the gaming audience, and Zelda will provide the "wow factor." The Wii isn't a Lamborghini, but we'll sell more units. This console launch has more licensees on board than ever before, and developers are attracted to the unique gameplay possibilities of the nunchuku.

Thanks, Simford, Source [GamePro]

Why November? And I'm not sure that sony can decide how other companies set their prices, even if it is their format.

If that were true, then they would have lowered the price back in November. Also, it is Sony's format, it will not get lowered until Sony says so. If they lower the prices, then the only feature that the PS3 has will not be important.

I thought you were more clued in Melstorm, 1080p resolution games require more storage as the graphics are more than twice as detailed as 480p. Most of nintendoes games have worked around media space restrictions (no speech) where as PS3 games will be totally unlimited to the size of the games developers create. Have you played gran tourismo? a game like that will benifit greatly from blu-ray storage.

Why are they bringin out blue ray dvd ... i mean how much room do they need for a video..... are they planning on making feature films that run for like 10 hours. This feature might be alright for bringing out seasons of tv shows but i dont really get why its such a big deal. Thats for Dvd's for games it could really open the industry up

I wont buy a wii at launch and possibly not at all, it takes time for a console to prove itself. If for some bizzare reason sony cannot build on or match the sucsess of there fist two consoles i'll still have a blu-ray DVD player which cost over a grand by themselves.

Zelda T.P is coming out on the cube because thats what it was designed for, the delays and bollocks that cube owners put up with was so nintendo could have there one and only selling point (yes including red steel crap hardware = crap first person shooters) for the wii. Personally i am really glad, i can dust off my cube and play zelda without a what could be a gimmicky control methrod (another possible reason why there two versions) and there will be practically no difference in graphics.

Question for you arch without Zelda TP featuring in your wii equation now ... do you see it as having enough to purchase.

n00dles said: omg are u guys frickin serious. Nintendo are releasing zelda on gamecube for all those ppl that bought a gamecube and were disappointed in the amount of good games on the system and because they said the next zelda game would be available on the GC.
Anyone who owns a gamecube and wants zelda but doesnt want to buy a wii just for that, they are doing you a favour by releasing this game on the GC and saving you $400+ that they would be benefiting from.
NO other company would do this, they would make you fork out the $400+ to play this game, and happily take the profits. in the words of Arny, stop whining!

LOL at arnie i can just imagine him saying it when you said that. This is a fair point perhaps i should be looking at the GC version after all it wil be available in store not only on line as it was at first presented (Lied throught their rear ends) to us.

But what's the point in buying the wii if I can buy it zelda on GC. $400 seems a lot of money for only slightly better graphics (especially if you don't have a widescreen telly).

But if I've already got a GC and the only reason I was going to buy a wii is for zelda then what's the point in wasting $400 bucks on a wii? Maybe if there was a mario platformer released from day one not 6 months later. None of the release titles (apart from zelda) seem that good .

They are clutching at a last attempt ditch to salvage the reputation of the Cube my good man. What it is in actual fact is kind of embarasing and pathetic. The same goes for wind waker. Everyone who bought a cube should get a discount on their wii for goodwill and to appologise for the pitiful crap they served up and endorsed. Just think somewhere along the line some wanker and friends had the job of checking the cube before it got released. YOU IDIOTS! I hope your dressed in filthy rags pushing a shopping trolley full of scraps around some ghetto !

Good argument.... how ever consoles arent cars.... cars can be vintage and great. Consoles relly on tech to be the front runner. No one wants an old 486 pc cause its too old.... and the tech provided will become older and obselete quicker.... im sure nintendo will make the lower level tech work and WORK WELL. But this will phase out earlier because of this unfortunatelly. Perhaps this will reduce the shelf life by a year or two.... the funny thing is Nintendo CANNED sega to death by having better tech i dont understand they are know for being a front runner??????

Hmmm I'm not too sure if Zelda comes out on the Gamecube here on the 11th of December. It may be a little later. I think that's the US release date, not a worldwide release.

Cool that gamers may have access to downloadable levels via WiiConnect24. Reminds me of what Nintendo were trying to do back in the days of the ill-fated 64DD (for those who don't know - a disk drive attachment for the N64 only released in Japan) and Zelda: Ocarina of Time (eventually released as Master Quest)

I don't get it... If it's pratically the same thing, then they should both be able to be on the shelves at the same time... O_o What's up?
