Codemasters Announce Ashes Cricket 2009

Codemasters have revealed Ashes Cricket 2009 to be released on the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and later in the year the Nintendo Wii.

The publisher is known for the Ricky Ponting Cricket series (known as Brian Lara elsewhere) that has developed a reputation for being superior to EA's effort. After a year off they're back with a new developer on board, Australia's Transmission Games (formally IR Gurus of the AFL games), and focusing on the upcoming Ashes.

The title is fully licensed by the Australian and English cricketing bodies (which may mean fake names of players from other countries) and will feature 18 of the worlds biggest stadiums. You'll be able to play in Twenty20 games, one-dayers and test matches as well as online.

“The Ashes is set to be the sporting event of the summer and it’s great to be producing the official game of the Series,” said Codemasters producer Jamie Firth.

“In partnering with the development team at Transmission Games, Ashes Cricket 2009 is a cricket title with an unprecedented heritage that comes from two companies that know and love the sport. The Brian Lara titles became the number one cricket gaming brand for over ten years and it’s a reputation that we fully intend to continue with Ashes Cricket 2009.”

All this cricket hate, tut,tut,tut.....and yet it still pulls bigger crowds than the average NRL/AFL/A.League game. Maybe you just dont represent the mainstream Aussie bloke.
Hate on it all you like people but this game will sell like crazy in Aust. Everyone i know who has a wii has been waiting for a good cricket game. perhaps this is why Big Beach Sports sold so well.....desperate cricket starved fans will do desperate things for a game...any game....even a really really bad one.

All I was saying is to respect other peoples opinions, if they hate cricket its their opinion and you can't go calling them names or insulting them because of that. This is getting off the topic though, and calling me "numb nuts" just proves my point you think down on people with a different opinion than you.

Its coming out much later than the PS360 versions so hopefully this means an optimised version for the Wii, If it was just going to be a straight port it would make sense to release them all at the same time as the actual Ashes.

I'm hoping the later date means it's built for the Wii and not crappy port. Essentially they need to change the perspective to behind the batsman rather than behind the bowler for the Wii version if this is to use the Wii Remote as your bat. I guess you could bowl from either angle but in single player it would be nice to then be able to go back to behind the bowler for that.

I can kind of see them scrapping the Wii version if it doesn't really work as they are releasing it after the Ashes and all.

They were gonna do that for every platform in the early stages. They ended up doing it traditionally to please the current fans, rather than to try to win them over.

Interesting to note is that they were using the 1 code for the PC, PS3 and the 360 version, rather than creating each one individually. Considering this, I think it will be interesting to see if the Wii version is its own, a port of the others or vice-versa

personally, i think it would be a great game if it was relatively life like, using motion plus it would be great
