Miyamoto: There is still some possibility in the Wii Music franchise

After showing off New Super Mario Bros. Wii at a round-table event in New York, Miyamoto gave several press outlets the opportunity for questions regarding anything Nintendo.

Asked if he was surprised with the receptions of any of his titles, he stated he thought Wii Music would have received a better reception. He also gave his input as to what could be fixed with a potential sequel to the game which had players simulate a variety of songs using their Wii Remotes.

"The development team members, the directors of Wii Music were I think, maybe a little bit shocked by the reaction and had hoped it would get a better response than it did. So I think if we were to do anything, it would be a matter of getting back together with them and trying to understand what their expectations were and where the gap was between their expectations and what the resulting product was."

Miyamoto explained what could possibly be done to fix up public reception of the title should one come along. He also made sure that there were no misunderstandings, clarifying that there were no set-in-stone plans for a sequel:

"We have talked about it but it isn't anything that's concrete at this point."

The rare acknowledgment of a Nintendo product missing the mark may mean that they're keen to fix any problems, but we'll have to wait and see.
