Yes, yes, i need help again. Well not really help this time, more of just input, i know a lot of you i would have already asked, but i am going to ask the site just to feel better inside.

I am getting it from this site: www.centrecom.com.au/

I have been picking around and found these things so far to be the best for me, the only thing i might change is Intel to AMD, and tell me which one you think i should get. I do a lot of Video Editing, using programs like Photoshop and Adobe Premier. I might get a lot more into video games as well!

Let me remind you, these prices are a few dollars off, i just did a round off, they may change sometime so yeh.

Tell me what you think, what i should change and other things.

That is the one that doesn't come with and OS or monitor, my friend has a spare windows XP and i can just use my current awesome LCD monitor and leave this computer with a cheap arse $20 old one from ebay lol.

Decent CPU, might want more HDD space if you do serious video editing.

You should dump the keyboard and mouse and get a Logitech wireless variety. I got the standard, non-flashy kind for about $60-$80 (wireless keyboard and mouse pack); all I use it for is typing because I have dedicated inputs for gaming.

Are the speakers really necessary? I find I enjoy PC more with headphones (though, granted, I use 5.1 Surround headphones, $70).

RAM isn't a good choice....to slow, your motherboard can take up to 1066, also now you could probs spend an extra 100 bucks and get a quad core and not have to worry bout having to upgrade your CPU for basically the lifespan of the PC.
As for having to pay for a build thats bulls**t, not wanting to brag but the company i work for now don't charge a build cost

haha, yeh i am still deciding, i REALLY don't want to go much more then this, at all!

Desi: The mouse and speakers are >$40 all together and it's just to get me through for the moment anyways

rysa: Isn't the RAM any good? I'll try to get a better one, and i was thinkin of quad-core. Also i was thinking AMD...

ragin: $55, i have been told by lots of people to build it myself, sadly my mum won't let me, you all know stupid parents these days with their paranoia for just about everything, it took months just to convincee her to buy something off the internet itself!

Not many programs use the potential of Quad's at the moment, they only utilize 1 core, 2 max so keep that in mind. Having said that it is future proofing your machine.
You should get a better CPU fan, the stock ones suck and I'd be amazed if a Quad especially could run under 60 - 70 degrees with one. My mate has a blue orb 2, its a monster of a fan and his quad runs at 50 degrees.

The guys are right you need faster RAM, waste of a mobo if you don't bump it up.
Yep bigger HDD for video editing.
I'd look at a bigger power supply as well. I don't know how much a 8600 needs but my mate's 8800 has a minimum 500w recommendation then there's also the power your CPU will use and CD rom etc. Quads will drain more than a dual core too.
Check that the case can fit the graphics card. the 8800's are really long (not sure about 8600's) and it was so long it was hitting his drive bay we had to get a new case.
They can also have some whack molar connections so the PSU has to have that.

I'd get them to build it, nothing worse than a DOA part and them saying "how do I know you didn't kill it". The piece of mind is worth it.

There's nothing wrong with the RAM. I built a fairly budget system based on a core 2 duo processor. I used that exact RAM setup. The system still runs fast and perfectly under Vista. I think that particular RAM scored 4.8 for Windows Vista Experience score.

Yes, you can argue that the RAM can be the bottle neck because it's a lot slower than the FSB. But it is dependent on your budget. To get the fastest ram possible, with two matched 1gb sticks, will set you back well over $200 (that being the base line price).

That ram clocks at 533 mHz where the motherboard can support up to 1066 mHz, you are halving your memory read/write throughput.

Corsair retail DDR2 1066 at about $140 for a 1gb module.

Only get the 1066 if you are going to grab a newer intel processor as iirc AMD don't currently support an external frequency greater than 800mHz so you would just be wasting the extra money you spent getting the 1066.

To break it down: If you get an AMD you are going to have a lot better floating point computation (good for floating point intensive programs ie gaming, video editing, etc) but you are going to lose out on your memory read/write speed.

If you get an Intel get a 1066mHz module(s). If you do this the intel will probably keep up with the AMD though I have no benchmarks to back that up and it is just my opinion.

Im with Phat. Guys all your suggestions are fine and dandy but you gotta remember... Cham doesnt have the money to accomodate the perfect system.

I was the one who recommended to Cham to go through Centrecom because of the many many many pc's I have built all my parts have come through because apart for MSI, centrecom is generally the cheapest around.

Cham needs a starting point and the path that he is choosing is a good one to start with. In regards to RAM yes its not utilising the motherboard, but the board probably handles 4 Sata HDD too? Is he filling that up.. no. However when finances allow Cham will be able to replace the RAM with Faster chips (something I doubt he wil even concider).

As for that $55 cham, if you plan on going through Centrecom then let me know, that $55 wil dissapear.

It looks decent, though for an extra few hundred, it could be more future proof.
As people said although Corsair is a good RAM brand, you pay for what you get..

Only real concern i see with the system - Is that the PSU would be most likely be pretty terrible, considering its included with a case for $50. Lol! Do you really want to trust your components with that?

If you could spend up a little more, you could get something like:
CPU : Q6600 = ~300/320
MOBO : Asus P5k = ~160
RAM : Corsair extreme - Maybe 800 as its cheaper = ~150

So with just those you are looking @ an additional ~$200 which will last you much longer before needing to upgrade components.

You dont necessarily need a new cpu fan. Im running a Q6600 quad with stock heatsink and have never seen a temp anywhere close to that.

my CPU runs @ around 28 degrees, and barely moves under load, and the individual cores run @ around 21 degrees each. Given QLD would be hotter than Sydney it should account for some heat, but thats a big difference considering your mate has an aftermarket HSU!!

stock cooling, using an antec 900, all fans on, but on low.

Edit : Another idea for cheap upgrade for the OP, is to maybe get a Thermaltake Soprano...comes with 430W PSU for ~$120.
Apparently not the best PSU, but surely has to be better than you one included for 50, and the soprano is a decent looking case

I completely agree with teh power supply comment however. So Maybe Cham you should look at getting a better case, drop down the list and try and get a Coolermaster or along those lines..

Remember Cham, once your ready to go ahead with it, and if you choose to go ahead with centrecom let me know.

lol....wow, i remember i said to Roy yesterday "I love being an Admin, everyone loves you and is asking to build me PC's and get me discounts "

Anyway, i LOVE all your help, phat, stuart, especially you for the site and the help.

And they are right, i am just a kid, i don't make money fast and i don't make a lot of it. Wanting me to get a Quad-core?!?! Jesus! lol.

I will get a better case in itself as this one is a pretty cheap one, the RAM is upgradable no? I will be running Windows XP so i don't need a ****load of it, and if i ever do it will be cheaper and i can just chuck it in (i think).

Mouse, Keyboard, Speakers, they are staying, don't bother arguing there. Built at the shop, of course it is, you all have had parents (i hope), they get a bit iffy when buying over the net etc, plus as my grandpa said if i build myself and something farks up they can start pointing fingers at me, it will be hard to prove it, same with buying parts from different places, if i get them to build it i have them by the balls

I am future-proofing myself without crashing my life savings and giving myself the chance to still be able to add to it later.

The CPU is fast enough (although please give me your opinions on Intel over AMD), The motherboard will support anything i add for a while, the hard drive is much bigger, i sized it to 320 for just a

RAM is cheap! 2GB for $66 dollars, as far as i know (well i know little) RAM is much easier to install to it, the Graphics card is 10 times better then my current PC and will last me hopefully a lifetime, the case i will change, and XP should i get legit, or uh, use my magical fairy dust to it?

Besides that guys it is VERY cheap on my standards, good old Stuart is going to help me along the way, Phat is going to give me more offers, it can burn DVD+-RW at 20x on a dual layer, all this crap.

I am a kid, i don't have 10000 dollars (just yet).

Here is an example to show you just that cheap setup, and how far it will get me:

Current PC

CPU: Intel Celeron 2.53GHz
HDD: 35GB
Mother: (god knows)
Graphics: somewhere around 50mb
Optical Drive: NO DVD WHATSOEVER

Hey looks great to me, but depending on where in aus you are these might be cheaper
www.itestate.com.au
bought 4 whole pcs off them now and never had one problem

they are in sydney, and even after postage they are usually alot cheaper than other stores. just looked up the cpu you want on there and that is $219, a little cheaper than you have there.

anyway good looking comp hope all goes well and if you're in or near sydney check itestate out, they could save you a packet, then you can afford a better something else you may want,
