heya everyone this is L-macca with a lil complaint about the wii games out atm

Y is it that most of nintendo (definitly NINTY DS) games soooo childish , i mean theres brain training, mumma cook off, hey even barbie for christ sake, nintendo need to make more unique characters that would make a new fresh series (like mario but could be 10 times better ) becoz i dont see th wii goin very far... ... unless th get into top gear after mario kart wii and SSBB com out
bcoz all th wii games are either not challenging or are just plain stupid

in other words wii need to there pee together and start makin sum PROPER GAMES

Okay. Sorry, but there has been thousands of complaints that Nintendo is 'childish'.
Obviously it is doing something right to appeal to a broad audience.

I'm not so worried about the kids games that are actually kids games. That's fine.

What worries me is that Zelda was stupidly easy and lacked the depth of the previous 3D Zeldas, as did Mario Galaxy. Haven't played Metroid yet but I'm very concerned about Mario Kart.

I think it's a valid concern. Surely there were lots of Nintendo fans who are concerned about the direction the company is taking? Didn't anyone else feel that Zelda and Mario were a little bit 'lowest common denominator' this time around?

Like I say, I've no issue with Nintendo looking to expand its market and bring casual games to the masses, but I don't like this attitude bleeding into their established franchises.

Of course they are. Wii's target market is lapsed gamers and casual gamers.

So does that mean the Nintendo who pushed the boundaries in the past to make creative, original and simplistic but challenging games is gone?

On the one hand we have Sony and MS who are content to publish pretty sequels of stupidly complex 18-button games that last four hours, and on the other we have a Nintendo who believes its market doesn't want to be challenged.

Has Nintendo really abandoned the customer that kept them alive for the entirely casual market? They could easily satisfy both. The franchises should remain products for gamers, while Wii Sports and Cooking Mama can satisfy the casual market.

It's amazing any game discussion ever takes place here if that's the attitude. Is everyone just supposed to comment on how much they enjoyed a game, and everyone else post to say they agree?

I enjoyed Zelda, but I was disappointed to find it had been dumbed down. I was hoping to find someone who would engage with this topic, to find out if I was the only one who found this trend worrying, but it seems I'm in the wrong place to discuss Nintendo games...

First, some advice for future reference, edit your post instead of double posting. This will help you avoiding trouble from admins

Second, I just annoyed about people being ungrateful about what they are given. I'm not saying it's just L-macca or you or anyone in particular, but just lots of people. If they don't like it, I'm sure they could make a better game.

Define proper game. A FPS using an exisiting game engine with different characters and weapons? Another car racing game?

I resent you saying Nintendo games are for kids because adults enjoy them just as much.

Why do games have to have sex, blood and weapons before they are deamed proper?

Most of these games lack gameplay, creativity or adventure and are just mature themes pasted over a weak and shallow game. They are about as good as your grammar.

Interesting to see that most people who complain about the lack of new Nintendo titles get a PS3 so they can play GTA 4, Resident Evil 5 or Silent Hill 5.

Fact is for over twenty years Nintendo has been gradually building and releasing new games. Now it has to satisfy Zelda fans, Mario fans, Metroid fans, Donkey Kong fans, Pokemon fans, Animal Crossing fans (etc...etc...) all who want to play the latest game in the series.

Nintendo - an embarrassment of riches
Sony/Microsoft - an embarrassment

You can thank Nissimo for that game.

Fact is a lot of third party developers develop crud games just so they can cash in. They dont market them towards mature gamers because they know they wont waste their money on them.

wow. omg. I can't believe what I'm reading, someone who is actually making sense! unbelievable, lol.

Basically, I think the reason is that nintendo have to cater for both the old nintendo fans who have been with them since the snes/n64 days, and all the newcomers who have jumped on the wii bandwagon. So in essence, they are making games for gamers who are very experienced and crave a challenging 'hardcore' game, and gamers who are new to videogames, and would prefer something less challenging than the hardcore nintendo fans.
This leaves nintendo in a precarious situaion, how do they satisfy both crowds? In my opinion, they solved this problem by striking a middle ground in their games, so the old gamers wouldn't completely feel abandoned, and the new comers wouldn't feel totally bewildered when playing a mario or zelda game.
continued..

I think zelda tp, and mario galaxy are both apt examples of this approach by nintendo. The fact that it only takes 60 stars! to complete mario galaxy immediately springs to mind.
and I think mario kart will follow the same trend. All the hands-on previews of the game suggest the game has been dumbed down so as to appeal to a wider audience.
Feel free to disagree though.

EDIT: I can see this thread esculating into a fanboy/flamewar, (as a lot of people get offended and aggravated if you don't hold the same opinion as them) so I'm going to pre-empt it, and not continue posting in this thread.

Greenbob, I agree entirely with your point. Excessive violence (so-called 'maturity'. What's mature about needing blood to enjoy a game?) and emphasis on graphics over clever gameplay is why I've avoided Sony and MS.

Let me make it clear that I (I don't know about the OP) am not lamenting the lack of violence on Wii. I'm lamenting the increasing lack of depth in gameplay.

The old Nintendo made extremely deep games. All those games you mentioned are great series, but their Wii iterations have been slightly disappointing (haven't played Metroid). Cura mentioned that early playtests of Mario Kart have returned the same opinion that Nintendo is dumbing down their games. It's really disappointing for a long term Nintendo fan like myself.

PS. My grammar is flawless. I will take you down.

EDIT: And I think Cura is onto the answer. Nintendo is trying to please two crowds at once. I would really prefer it if they could split it so you'd have Wii Sports/Play and all the casual titles developed with the casual market in mind, and Zelda, Mario, Metroid et al designed with the long term fan in mind. I can't help but think we won't see anymore brilliantly designed games like Majora's Mask from Nintendo until they can put this split in their operations.

Since when were wii games not childish
I always found the wii as a console for young people, I dont think it attracts most of those hardcore shooting games you see on the 360 and PS3. Its just not nintendo's type.

There is a sense in which I agree with you and another in which I don't.

I actually enjoyed Wind Waker's art. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole game actually, except the useless search quest towards the end. The overworld was largely empty and a bit boring, but there was an undeniable sense of fun in the exploration aspect of the game. The random sea events were great fun. My only other complaint was the 'Parry' command made fights a bit easy. Twilight Princess made the overworld larger, but I wasn't really interested in exploring it because there were hardly any side-quests or secrets to find. The world was big and pretty, but it wasn't alive. Even Wind Waker's largely empty overworld had more going on.

On the other hand, Mario Sunshine was uninspiring except for the Jetpack-free areas which were great, inspired level designs. My criticism of Galaxy is that there's no large areas, no exploration and the path to the star is pretty much handed to you. You never have to find the star yourself, or work out to get it for yourself. They improved the level design, but took away the fun of jumping around all over the place.
