Wii Software \ Wii games becoming kids games

I think Nintendo is doing a great job. When I had my Gamecube I used to get upset that certain games were never released for it so I bought an Xbox. Now with the Wii I think Nintendo is starting to branch out a little bit. I believe that they need to keep doing what they are doing to stand out.

Now I like having seperate games for seperate systems. Would we keep buying Mario Series for Nintendo Systems if they were released on Sony or Microsoft systems as well? I probably wouldn't. I think if people aren't satisfied with the games that are coming out for Wii then maybe it's time to trade in/sell. I don't think that Nintendo is going to change much more over the next 20 Years.

The old Nintendo made extremely deep games. All those games you mentioned are great series, but their Wii iterations have been slightly disappointing (haven't played Metroid).

I think one of the problems is we have one Myamoto and ten or so sequels to pump out.

Myamoto made Super Mario Kart but I am sure he didnt make Mario Kart 64 (even though his name features in the credits) - I believe his attention was elsewhere.

You cant replicate the genius that man has. Nintendo has to share the love with other in house developers or get second party developer on board to develop their titles (like Metroid and Donkey Kong).

Hence some quality titles lacking the appeal of the prequels. We all know what the bond games were like after Rare left.

I guess having a plethora of titles is a double edged sword.

As for Mario Galaxy - the concept (in my opinion) simply didnt work. Perhaps if they tried huge 3D worlds like Mario 64 instead of tiny linear spheres.

They simply stuffed up (like many agreed they did with wind waker, majoras mask, mario sunshine and super mario brothers two) Stick to the formula Nintendo!

Majora's Mask was a masterpiece, in many ways superior to Ocarina of Time.

People also have to remember that Zelda: OoT was released in 1998. Everyone who played it back then is 10 years older now. Maybe Zelda isn't getting easier, you're getting smarter.

Or Devs are making games look more pretty, and forgetting to pu a bit of length into a game.

Here are a few reasons video games aren't as fun/challenging as in the past:

1/ As mentioned - we are getting smarter. I remember having one or two years of Street Fighter II Turbo up my belt before taking on Super Street Fighter II. Needless to say it was easy. Remember the first time you walked around in Super Mario 64? I bet now you could kill the game in less than half the time.

2/ Video game developers arent from the industry. Too much focus on graphics design and animation. Gorgeous 3D models. Where is the game play? Same way graphos have taken over web design. They dont undestand html coding so you get an ill thought out gorgeous page.

3/ Games are harder to make. Once upon a time you could produce a top quality SNES game in a year. Now with 3D games and increased hardware, a serious game will take 2-3 years to develop. Nintendo can afford to wait but how many other game developers can?

More tracks and levels = more design time. Game designers need to cut corners to meet deadlines. Might explain why a lot of games seem shallow.

Ever seen a preview talking up a game feature only to find out it had been removed from the final version?

So Galaxy was not as good as 64 Im very sorry that it didn't top one of the greatest games of all Time
In my opinion TP was just as good as OoT, Wind Waker was better than both and Majora's Mask is better than that and the Snes Zelda was the best.
As for Nintendo not coming up with new great ideas, pikmin 1 and 2 for the cube were fantastic. and the metroid revival to fps was inspired.
Also with the start of the Wii we've seen 2 kinds of games
general - wii fit, wii sports ect.
remakes - mario, ssbb, Mkart, Metroid
There are still alot of remakes to go, which fans expect, even demand, DK, Star Fox, F-Zero to name a few
Im sure that Nintendo have some aces up their sleve for the coming year, and they have already anounched there will be a must own title towards the end of the year. Just be patient its going to take some time for the 3rd party developers to get a handle on the new system and then hopefully we will see some amazing titles

What worries me is that Zelda was stupidly easy and lacked the depth of the previous 3D Zeldas, as did Mario Galaxy. Haven't played Metroid yet but I'm very concerned about Mario Kart.

Zelda and Mario did NOT lack the depth of the previous games. Nintendo are not responsible for you getting older and better at games. When OOT came out, i finished it in a 74 hour marathon. When TP came out, it was 35 hours. TP is a harder game, but i'm a lot older, so it doesnt SEEM as hard.

It kinda works in the opposite for me, I used to play games all the time when I was younger & I was IMO pretty good but now as I get older I find them alot more challenging because I dont have the time to sit & play them for hours on end until Ive mastered them, therefore each time I have a gaming session I dont find that many games I consider easy, & I think thats a good thing. Now in relation to the topic here, Ive always considered Nintendo to have more child & family friendly games but that doesnt mean they dont have games for everyone.

I respectfully disagree. The fights in OoT are still more difficult than in TP. When I played through OoT and the end of last year I still died a number of times. I died once in TP. And difficulty aside, I'm also disappointed with the lack of sidequests in TP. Where is the Biggoron sword quest equivalent? What about all the quests to get the masks in Majora's Mask? There's very little like that in TP.

As for Mario, when did you ever have to think to find a star? In Mario 64 and even Sunshine (which was majorly disappointed) you often had to work out how to get the stars yourself. In Galaxy you just follow the pre-determined path, get to the end and there's your star.

We need to remember the money reason behind the difficulty issue. The old arcade games used to be insanely difficult because you'd keep coming back to put your 20c in (yes, they used to be that cheap - seriously! ). These days, it pays to make games a little easier because if you finish the quest/battle/whatever, what do you then do? You go out and buy a new game. Nintendo and game developers have also had decades of abuse from disgruntled gamers who wanted those weeks of their life back because the end scene was pretty lame. So if getting to the end is a little easier, it makes most people happy, and they aren't so upset that the ending is a short little video.

I think it's a pretty fine line between being too easy and too hard. If it's too hard, most people just give up and walk away. If it's too easy, you want yer money back...

I haven't actually found a Zelda game challenging death wise, the challenge in Zelda has always been the puzzles coupled with my lack of patience I always sort of wished for a harder Zelda game I used to love getting to a Stalfos in OoT because it was actually a sort of interesting sword fight. But it was by far not enough it would be heaps more fun to take on 6 at once or something. Stuff like that need not be part of the game but a side quest to challenge the completionist gamers or those who like a challenge. I never really found a challenge in Zelda it was just a brilliant game to play though, but I do play through all my shooters on the hardest difficulty so thats sort of what I call a challenge and some games its just crazy hard!

Nintendo has always sort of catered for the younger audience and theres not really much point trying to change that because though they try new things with hardware and some great games, they stick to anything that has worked in the past like super glue!

Have to say though I've never played a Nintendo console much since they lost Rare. The FPS's on the N64 were just the icing on my Zelda cake and I had more than one game to buy the system for. So far the Wii is just Zelda.

Y is it that most of nintendo

bcoz all th wii games are either not challenging or are just plain stupid

in other words wii need to there pee together and start makin sum PROPER GAMES

Play No More Heroes. A breath of fresh air, adult game wise, but by the sounds of your post, your mum won't buy it for you because its M.

If your talking about Nintendo specifically (I'm not sure, your grammer is THE worst), Nintendo have always made games aimed at everyone, why change a winning formula?

"Kiddy" games for the DS are just quick revenue grabbers for a system in which software production is cheap. You'd be stupid if you actually bought that shovelware.

If your concerned about losing face amongst your friends for having a kiddy console, get a new console or grow up.
