Since its establishment in the 1980’s, The Legend of Zelda has become one of the best franchises in all of Video Gaming. The total delay of one year stopped release of the Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and sent Angry Nintendo fan boys on a rampage against the Big N itself. As each game comes, it brings a large amount of Hype. But where did it all start? So I present to you my review of the NES classic, The Legend Of Zelda.
The Gameplay is interesting, and made way for the gameplay of 7 overhead Zelda games, which is half of the franchise (currently). As I said, the gameplay is from an overhead view. It is just a giant map divided into squares. So, you receive a sword (from a man who disappears after you take the sword saying, “It’s too dangerous to go alone, Take this with you!”) Following this, you take your sword and defeat enemies across the land of Hyrule, before they defeat you. After you defeat an enemy, you can pick up Rupees, the currency of Hyrule, which can be used to purchase weapons to defeat more enemies, until you finally defeat a level.
Though there does seem to be a catch. There is no way to tell that you are going in the right direction, and it seems that all the game is Mindless killing of Strange Creatures. Many consider it to be the Grand Theft auto of the 1980’s, only without all the explosions and Car Hi-jackings. It does have a free roaming feel to it, but eventually, if you are involved with the game, (which most people are not, they find it too confusing) but in this game, you can get such an awesome feeling just by beating a level. After beating a level, you’ll find the game more entertaining, and appreciate the gameplay.
The Story is generally about how the Protagonist, Link, must find all the pieces of the tri-force by clearing dungeons, so He can save Hyrule’s Princess Zelda. It did generally help Mario set the constant for some princess being Kidnapped in Gaming.
The graphics, as they have aged, are not good at all for today’s standards, but if you can get past this flaw and act like you were playing it in the 80’s, then it shouldn’t bother you.
Another thing to compliment the game about is the excellent music. It became famous and has seen many adaptations.
Overall:
There’s a lot to like about this game. The Music, The interesting story, and the gameplay. Though if you don’t like free-roaming gameplay with minimal clue as to what your objective is, than I wouldn’t recommend this game. Though finding and clearing Dungeons is fun and challenging, which is essentially what makes a good game.
For the having no Clue what to do, I must take off one point, giving it an overall score of 9/10.
