Guitar Hero III: True rock legends? - 9/10
Guitar Hero III review!
By Brawl4all
GH3 started quite a lot in gaming. When it was first released, it was considered not as good as its two main predecessors (surely better than Encore: Rock The 80’s), though it seemed to do a lot for the world of gaming. And the world of DragonForce. It even sparked two new games, with Rock Band and Rock Revolution (coming soon, by Konami).
For those who don’t know, Guitar Hero gives you several things, a Guitar, A Screen, and a Song.
^^^ PS2 guitar ^^^
The Guitar Used in Guitar Hero uses 5 buttons, which are displayed on the screen. The notes approach the on-screen buttons and the player must play the note in order to play the song. In the corner a “Rock” Gauge of Red, Yellow and Green is displayed and tracks how well you are doing on the song. You must successfully play to keep the gauge out of the Red, or else you fail, and the crowd you’re playing in front of thinks you’re an idiot.
There are several Game modes, including “Quick-play”, “Guitar Battle”, And “Career”.
Quick-Play
Quick play is just something that lets you pick a stage and play a song. This is just the general mode People use when they have guests over, or are just playing a song or two.
Guitar Battle/Multiplayer
Now this mode I found interesting. It set up two note sections and allows to people to play against each other with Power-Ups such as “Broken String”, “Amp Overload”, “Double Notes”, and “Increased Difficulty”, all working for a brief period of time. What I find is that the Battles are quite fun, and are even challenging. One of the best things of this feature is that they have a Wi-Fi Connection, something not available on the PS2 version I myself play.
Career
Another interesting Feature to an interesting game. It takes you through the story of an up-and-coming Band, and has you play many Classics, with Three Guitar Battles along the way, with Rock Legends Tom Morrello, and Slash of Guns N Roses… and even a third opponent (I don’t want to give spoilers, though a lot of you probably know). But Behind this is a very interesting story with a very interesting moral.
Don’t sign a contract unless you know what’s in it for you.
Now, about the Graphics.
If you ask me, I think that the graphics are nice, I myself own the PS2 version, (I believe the graphics on Wii are better) and I find that the visuals meet the standards, allowing me to praise it only slightly. While the Wii graphics are alright, games like Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, No More Heroes, and Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess are far better.
Soundtrack
This section of the game is an Epic Win, which is rather positive for Activision, seeing how it’s the main part of the game. It would be hard to have a better soundtrack then the original Guitar Hero, seeing as how the PS2 exclusive showcased “Iron Man” and “Smoke on the Water”, but this game makes it seem possible with songs like “Welcome to the Jungle”, “Bulls on Parade”, “Slow Ride”, “School’s out”, “When You Were Young”, and “Paint it Black”.
This soundtrack even made a song famous, bringing glory to DragonForce’s “Through the Fire and flames”, which is recognized for its 8-minuete length and its insane difficulty.
My personal favorite, though, is one of the last songs you play in the game. It is a Metal Version of the Charlie Daniels band “The Devil went down to Georgia”.
Overall
Guitar Hero III is a great game with or without Friends, and can give you many hours of entertainment.
The Good:
Excellent soundtrack, good multiplayer, very, very, very enjoyable.
The Bad:
The Wii version does not have Downloadable content, meaning the 360 and PS3 owners get more songs.
Insane difficulty on “Through the Fire and Flames”, I can’t beat it on Easy.
Graphics: 7/10
Soundtrack 9.5/10
Gameplay 10/10
Story 7.5/10
Overall 9/10
