Battalion Wars II - 8/10
The battalion war began in 2005 with the 1st in the series Battalion Wars, Battalion Wars came out on the GameCube and then in 2008, the 2nd of the series came out on Wii. Which is know as: Battalion Wars II or Battalion Wars 2. Battalion Wars was originally going to be called Advance Wars: Under Fire, but who knows what changed their minds. Battalion Wars is both, a real-time strategy game and a third-person shooter. In Battalion Wars, you're an army or Battalion if you like, that has to either attack, defend or just past some objectives. In the Battalion Wars II you can be a Naval Fleet, A Ground Battalion or a Sky Battalion. You're fighting forces can be part of the Western Frontier, Solar Empire, Iron Legion, Tundran Territories, Anglo Isles or Xylvania. They may differ in colours and differ in the units looks. New to the game is The Naval Fleet, and it consists of Battleships, Frigates, Submarines, Dreadnoughts and Naval Transport. A ground Battalion can consist of Heavy Tanks, Light Tanks, Flame Veterans, Bazooka Veterans, Assualt Veterans, Rifle Grunts, Anti-Air Veterans, Mortar Veterans, Recon Vehicles, Battlestations, Anti-Air Vehicles, and Artillery. A Sky Battalion can consist of Gunships, Air Transport, Fighters, Bombers and Stratodestroyers. I'll refer to the game as BWii from now on.

In BWii you are able to control you're whole Battalion, but mainly one soldier of choice, which you can change very easily, with a few pushes of a few buttons. BWii first starts off with a cut scene showing the Battalion War many years ago. Then you begin to play, once completed that, it takes you to present day, which is still at war. BWii plays as a real-time strategy game mixed with a 3rd person shooter, it controls perfectly well -with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. Not much motion is needed in the game but a lot of thinking and perfect timing with your attacks. You can lock onto a target by pressing Z on the Nunchuck and Shoot by pressing B on the Wii Remote. You can also just aim, freely, by using the Wii Remote as a pointer. You move with your selected unit with the Control Stick on the Nunchuck. Using the D-Pad, you can scroll across your Battalion units and issue commands by using the A button, which is found on the Wii Remote. The game runs well, even in Wi-Fi, with little or no lag.

Brilliant graphics, it just like a 3D version of Advance Wars. The game isn't much different from the previous version, graphic wise, but there is some improvement. The characters are slightly more detailed, as with the landscapes. Frame rate is great! The game look slightly better in S-Video or Component as would any game. When in the Game Menu, it uses Sprites like in
Advance Wars, to show the units going around the globe. Unlike other War games, the character look cartoon-ish. Unfortunately there is no blood, which takes away some of the realism, but it makes up in Game-Play. You may look at the screen-shots any be disguised, but the game isn't so 'Kiddy' Underneath the cartoon-ish graphics is a great game, especially for Wii. The water doesn't look too real but it is good enough to call above satisfactory.

Pow... Pow, Bang Bang... Well... it sounds a lot better than that, it sound pretty authentic, with the vehicles and weapons. But obviously it can't be as good as COD4, but it sounds great for a shooting game. Voice-Acting isn't too bad, but at times it can get annoying, with the accents of the characters, they sound terribly fake. It takes advantage of 5.1 Surround Sound, which may enhance your game-play, depending on the player. Voice chat could really help in this game, with online Co-Op. It's nearly impossible to hint to the other player to retreat or infiltrate. The sound of the GunShip is probably the worst, I mean, it sounds great but the sound of it when you have no Anti-Air Veterans with you will send chills down your spine. They are quite hard to beat without a Anti-Air vehicle or unit.

Battalion Wars 2 is a great Shooter/Strategy Game for everybody, from the young to the old. It does have Wi-Fi, which is extremely fun, you can play Co-Op, Skirmish or Assault. There is little or no lag, that I have experienced on Wi-Fi. Remember, there is a previous version, which is on the GameCube. If you are having doubts about this game, try the GameCube version, it's cheap to buy and even cheaper to rent. Oh and, you do need to have played the first game to get into the storyline. They barely have a connection between each-other
I recommend this game to everyone.
