Super Mario Galaxy - 9/10
Welcome To the Greatest Game Of All time…..
SUPER MARIO GALAXY
Our favourite plumber is back for his best adventure yet where a mere 8 worlds isn’t enough, he needs galaxies!!
With the aid of the Wii remote you control Mario like never before as you fly through countless galaxies trying to find all 121 power stars, save your Girl, Peach (again) and rid the world of Bowser and his plan to make his own galaxy (kinda like a Death star thingy)
I bought this game expecting it to be just a re-make/addition to the franchise that I would have to own but not really like (i.e. Super Paper Mario) But boy was I wrong, this game takes the best of all the Mario games and transforms it. Now where Super Paper Mario was a good game, it has nothing on this outstanding Mario title and in my opinion outshines even my fav Mario game, Super Mario world on SNES.
The Story like with most Mario games is basic and to the point,
Mario is invited to the Centennial Star festival that celebrates the passing over a comet overhead.
This is when Bowser attacks and summons a UFO to steal the entire castle and lift it into outer space.
After an unsuccessful rescue attempt, Mario is catapulted across the cosmos and awakens on a small planet. This is where the story begins, as it is your job as Mario to find all the Power Stars and return power to Rosalina's Observatory so you can find Peach’s castle and ultimately rescue her.
The graphics in this game are what you would expect from a Wii game, bright and colourful but not outstanding. While they don’t make you go “OMG” they do their job well and at no time do you wish for more detail here or clearer graphics there. Mario is animated well (as always) and the enemies are new and fun as well as suiting to the galaxies they are themed around.
The Galaxies themselves (all 42 of them) are great and really look quite cool as you walk around them defying gravity in a way which I have never played before. They are bright and always let you know what galaxy you have visited with their distinct shapes and shades.
The game play is where this and all Mario games shine. Mario is very easy to control and like Zelda Twilight, he has adapted to the Wii-remote seamlessly. Controlling Mario is easy with all his moves available, including shooting your opponents with star-bits found during the game.
You also can change into different shapes and characters like Boo-Mario and Bee-Mario.
These are also a great addition to the game and make for hours of fun. I cannot find one thing I di not like about this game, even Luigi’s in it and after you find all 120 stars, he is there to help you find the 121st one!
This truly is the BEST MARIO GAME OF ALL TIME
