Super Smash Bros. 64 (VC) - 9/10

The game that introduced the famous 'falcon punch'. The game that showed us that Jigglypuff isn't actually a weak piece of crap. The game taught us that giant white hands are evil. Ah, the game that started it all: Super Smash Bros. 64!

At release, this game was only intended to be sold in Japan, however due to it's popularity (which is clearly justified), it was released worldwide. This was in 1999.

And ten years later, we get another taste of it, this time on the Wii's Virtual Console. 1000 points - $10 USD - is all it will take you to get this gem of a game. And may I tell you now, among other n64 titles, it could be 1000 of your most well spent Wii Points ever.

For those who, for some reason, are oblivious to what Super Smash Bros. is all about.. It's about bringing characters from different game worlds together, putting them on a field, and making them fight to the death

Different moves were available to each character. Standard attacks, using 'A'. Special attacks, using 'B'. Grabs, using 'R'. Using all these moves efficiently are the key to smashing your opponent out the field, causing them to lose a life (or the game).

The use of items is crucial in this game. You can collect pickup items to use to destroy your opponents. Hit them with a baseball bat... SHOOT them with a ray gun.. THROW A POKEBALL AT THEM AND GET...

Goldeen. Crap, what a waste of an item. That silly fish is good for nothing and damn well deserves to be flailing around on Yoshi's Island.

There are a number of different courses available for play, from the different worlds that each SSB character was from. Original music from these games accompanied these fields.

A main feature of the game would be the 'classic' mode, where you need to battle different opponents, in turn, along with two little minigames, before advancing to the boss and taking on the almighty Master Hand. I'd tell you to kick his ass, but... you know, he doesn't seem to have one!

Graphics are quite nice in the game, and really suit the new (at-the-time) style of the game. Having these graphics remain in the game really takes you back into the good old days of n64.

Actually playing the game was bloody fun back in the day, especially with friends, and after 10 years, I definitely cannot say that I ever got tired of the arcade-style fighting action of SSB64. With a range of different moves available to each character, there are a number of different tactics available to the player to put their opponent down and win the fight.

Customization is nice, being able to adjust items and the rate at which they come. Selection of field is nice, and the choice between 12 characters makes a nice roster for the first game in a series now recognised by most gamers.

This is a definite recommendation for anyone and everyone. If you don't get it, you never know, you might see mario at your front door.

And unlike me, the lucky bastard will probably get a GOOD pokemon

This is a terrible review. I'm sorry but ssbb is game that deserves a proper review, you've just craped on about nothing. All you seem to tell us is the Modes and that one of the strongest characters jigglypuff is crap. You sir need to fix this.

I'm not reviewing SSBB, I'm reviewwing SSB. *yawn*

But I supposed I did crap on about nothing half the time. I'll get around to changing that ASAP. Mind you, I believe I covered what I wanted to cover and am not sure what it is you want me to add?

You can't just slap 'terrible review' on this because it's different and uses different methods of getting the point across.

But that's the point! There is no point there! There is pointless gibberish on the game! How about music? Gameplay? Graphics (era wise)?

Maybe terrible is jumping to conclusions, but there is no review there to help those wether or not to buy this game.

tails - I already covered gameplay and graphics (albeit I was very vague with graphics, you're right), but not music. Sorry =[ Will fix it up soon.

Don't be sorry! I'm just giving my opinion! Think of it like this.
I'm the consumer and I'm looking to buy a game on VC, think of it as if your talking to someone about the game and how you think it is. That's just me, otherwise the review isn't up to my likings and opinions are opinions.

Cheers for the feedback Obviously I am trying to get across that the game is a good one and worth buying but considering I do not work for Nintendo it does not bother me too much if I fail to convince them.

My reviews are generally not as vague or crap, trust me, but obviously I rushed to get this one out and now I need to spend some time fixing it. Thanks for your thoughts!

No problem! Sorry if it at first was a bit harsh.
And I'm not a big nintendo fan, I'm more SEGA and Sony. So I'm a bit of a critic towards anything really.
