haha.

Yeah, but that skinny arsed laptop is sweet! Yes, it's pricey, but it'll drop as soon as everyone else jumps on the bandwagon and copies Apple :^).

My point in case... has anyone else noticed how many 'touch screen' devices have suddenly appeared since the iPhone & iPod Touch have been around :^)

At least we can comfortably say that Apple innovate in the IT industry. MS, while claiming to innovate, rarely do.. they just buy! :^)

The Macs I had that were crashing were crashing while I was using Adobe Illustrator most of all but often Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver...yknow the programs they're supposed to run better than a PC.. I didn't try and do anything fancy on the Macs. They failed at performing simple tasks why would I push it?

I'm not claiming that PC's are better or anything, I'm claiming Macs are far from what they're cracked up to be. They have their own markets and their own users but Macs have fanboys PC's don't. I never tried to play games on a Mac all I used were assorted design programs and it cracked the s***'s all the time

Don't make the assumption staurt that i am going to buy this tomorrow. I get my PC because it's nice, big screen, and it's in my room and it's what i need/want.

This laptop would be nice as something i could just take around on small trips, not take to school and design homepage banners ni lunchtime (ps, check out the new one we just put up)

So what was crashing? Photoshop, Illustrator etc, or OSX? In my daily experience of OSX, the operating system itself rarely crashes, but the programs do! That's not Apple's fault. That sounds more like Adobe's issue.

In Pre-OSX days, it was well known that if something like Photoshop spat it, then it would take down the whole computer (much like IE still does :^). With OSX, if Photoshop crashes, OSX doesn't. My wife (a graphic designer/illustrator) will vouch for this! If you were running Photoshop on early OSX under the classic environment, this may have been another issue relating to the classic environment and OS9.

But having had Mac's in the house for 15 years, and acting as support tech for my wife, I can assure you that in heavy daily use of Creative Suite.

Not much use for professional designers though. It doesn't have some fairly critical features required for print work.

I agree with Cham, the Air is a piece of over-rated, overhyped, expensive garbage. I'm not gonna pay $2500-$4500 for a skinny and terribly under-featured notebook. Mac's DO crash, (i can easily make my mac crash on purpose) and so do PC's (but with DEP and SFP i cant crash them on purpose, except by downloading a virus or overloading the memory) and so does Linux. dont get me wrong, i use them all and love them all, but Mac's DONT "JUST WORK", they too need configuration to get it working the way I want, its just that OS X doesn't show a wizard or setup on first boot, while PC's do. Mac's are NOT more secure than windows, if anything windows is more secure with the amount of firewalls and protection on them, its just that Mac's are less popular, thus less of a target for virus writers and hackers. i don't like or agree at all with those mac ad's they are wrong, period. I grew up with mac's but I find myself more effiecient and on the job with windows. I've had PC's for 5 years and have never gotton a virus or a hack attack. Please, dont get me wrong, i love them both, but i'm sick of apple and apple fanboys picking at Windows and PC's, I dont see Microsoft picking at Mac's, hah! Microsoft even makes software for mac's while apple, wrongly picks at Windows, while half of the statements (in the ad's and made by fanboys) are blatently untrue.

Completely agree with that death_bee

And texnick if that is the case and its only actually OS crashes that count as crashes, then XP and Vista never ever crash. How have you taken a whole system down with IE? Why do you even use IE I should be asking.

Now lets put this into perspective, OS crashes on a Mac is practically the equivalent of a gaming console crashing, they software for their own hardware! How could you compare that to Windows who have to make an OS that runs on just about limitless hardware combinations? A Macs own software crashing on its own hardware would be embarrassing. And yeah Illustrator HAS crashed it to the point I'm not going to stare at that stupid colourful wheel any longer. If I lose responsiveness of the system for over 2 minutes then thats counted as a crash. That Apple Alt Escape or whatever the Ctrl+Alt+Del equivalent is didn't save it either.

Just stop acting like they're so fantastic, they're no better than Windows, seemingly even at the things they're supposed to do better.

I totally agree. The big OS' are no better than one another, Skarteh's right, for a mac to crash on its own hardware would be embarrasing( and it does happen), windows might crash because of the limitless amount of software and hardware available. You have to at least praise Windows for having the great compatability that it has.

Oh please. Microsoft brought that on themselves. If they are unfairly going to enforce businesses to put their OS on every computer, then they have to support it don't they. Or more importantly, they don't. The 3rd party companies write drivers for their own hardware.

I don't touch IE, it's a POS!

If they are no better than each other, then you tell me how I can have two computers in my shop that say otherwise. My Macbook Pro that I do EVERYTHING on, except run the software required for my shop, that hadn't been rebooted in nearly three weeks until last night, or my BRAND NEW Vista PC that blue screens on a shutdown, and required a repair of the installation the day it was delivered. And it's running a single, fairly light-weight program.

How you can relate a Mac to a console is a joke. A console does one simple task. For what it's worth, my 360 locks up more frequently than my Mac!

I am not acting that Mac is better. I am speaking from my experiences over 23 yeas in IT. And they are my opinions. If you don't like it fair cop. But to me, I will choose Mac over Windows every single time, without exception. So your experiences are bad. Fair cop, everyone has bad experiences. But I suspect there will be more to your problems than just the OS crashing. For example, you are blaming the OS for Illustrator crashing it? I mean, for someone to put that point across is pretty lame.

You can't even begin to compare that with IE, because Illustrator is a 3rd Party program. IE, is so tightly integrated with the OS that you can't even uninstall it.

Tex, please watch those comments like 'troll', anyone has a problem with someones attitude kindly ask me in a private message and i will sort it out, retaliating brings doom on you Talking to all of you for future reference, just a side note.

That is right, Macs 'just' work, because they are shipped with the hardware, i bought this PC from dell, has the crappiest secs i've ever seen and i'm helping to co-run a network of websites with it using things like photoshop, these 'just work'.

But there is the problem i personally see, they just work, that's all they do. If i want to add another 2 lots of 500gb HDD's to my mac in a year, i can't do it, or at least without much pain. My new PC has a door on the side that makes it easier then anything.

And when i want to buy a tower that is expandible, i gotta pay 4 grand or more. I think bee made a strong point. OSX is designed to work on mac computers, configured and made by apple, testing by apple. I'm sure if microsoft sold PC's like they did it would be fine as well, that's why just about 95% of people i know use a PC, because almost all configurations these days can run windows, i don't see kmart selling computers with mac OS's.

Technology advances to fast, so fast that i can't be bothered to spend 2K on a computer that will be outdated or will not be upto the standards of what i want in some part of it, and then i can't end up adding

3RD party indeed but being that the design industry has long been the biggest Mac supporter it seems very strange that the industry leading vector authoring program crashes so often? I updated it but it still happened. I had no way of updating the OS so I assume that would be necessary. And where did you buy this Vista PC that crashes when you shut it down?

Been running Vista as long as I've had this PC and once I replaced a RAM stick I've never had a crashed program, BSOD, lockup - anything.

And you'd be hard pressed to find someone who would defend IE. The reason the thing is so bloody awful is its under a typical Microsoft *monopolize the industry* regime and doesn't get fixed because it has the biggest market share already. I don't have IE crash or anything but its no Firefox. Trying to design web pages that work under bloody IE is a complete nightmare. It has its own way of doing everything.
