Ahh my Mac friends come and gather with me in the corner!! hehehe!

Yeah previous versions was in the previous versions but how easy it to use.. its not all that user friendly and you have to dig to find it. Thats the difference with a lot of things. Yeah some things have the end results but its the path you take that makes a big difference. One click and I can see all my history.

And I tell you what I would much prefer to be a network admin in a Mac environment rather than a PC environment. I would have sooo much more time to worry about improving systems...rather than just supporting them.

I really really hope the people who get involved in these arguments do actually have constant access to both systems. PC people who may have only touched a mac once or twice really shouldnt be commenting... same with Mac people. I have been on a mac for 7-8 months now straight everyday and atleast once a week I say to myself... Wow. I didnt know that....why doesnt windows do that!

I was stuck with Mac's for three years straight. I'm not just making up my opinion, prior to using a Mac I didn't have an opinion. I didn't have any preconceived opinion either, all the things I hate about Macs were the things they did while I used them. I used OS9-Leopard and probably that range in system ages.

And I don't know what you're talking about the menu disappearing in Vista... what menu? Vista is hardly different to XP just has more features and more system drain. I don't know I never have problems with my PC's. Don't know what all you people do to have them "screw up constantly" but I never have that problem. I had it on a Mac all the time, OSX in particular was crasharific. Its funny the Mac AD's pointing at Windows crashing well OSX beat Windows 98's crashing hands down. In fact it was like using Windows ME *shudders*

I think by the menu comment he meant how it no longer extends out but scrolls up and down.

I found that weird as well, I like my expanding menu dagnabbit!

No what he means I think is by the File, view, tools, help etc. Microsoft has tried to remove them from plain view. You have been able to do it for awhile but its more evident in Vista.

What I mean is that if I go to the explorer, there is NO menubar. File, Edit, etc.

This to me is basic stuff. And you sit an average user who has a little experience of Windows 95, or XP in front of Vista, they are going to be lost.

You guys are not what I call 'average users', you are here after all. But what about your parents?

Like I said, I have 23 years in the IT industry, and have a good knowledge of most OS's out in that time. For me, and in my opinion, (and with a lot of the people I talk to in the industry too) MS have released a product that is an age away from OSX in term of a non-computer-literal person sitting down and being able to easily do what they want.

As for OSX crashing, Skarteh, I will confidently say you are in a minority if you think OSX crashes a lot. I've had about 10 different Mac's running in my house, office & shop over the last 6 years, being used on a daily basis and OSX has been the most stable OS I have ever come across. No disrespect intended, but when you hear these sorts of reports, it's often due to people playing silly buggers with the computer/OS as opposed to the OS itself. I know, I used to do it on linux all the time... to be honest, OSX has been more stable than linux for me. But the reason for that is that I no longer have to stuff around to make things work... they just do!

More importantly, if you treat a Mac like a Windows PC... you're asking for trouble!! :^)

IMO: Windows is written by geeks for geeks without considering the average person at home.

OSX & Mac products, in general, are designed to be easily picked up and used, and you don't have to be a pizza-eating, coke-swilling, nocturnal computer geek to understand it.

Hehe, <3 reading fights.

I think people that say they 'hate' an OS is a pretty extreme thing.

I ordered my computer recently and Stuart has seen it, if i wanted to by the same on mac hardware it might be 2 to 3 times more expensive.

I look at this for flexibility.

I don't want a computer that you can't open and have space to fiddle with or add things, i don't want a computer that is going to not be expandable, and then end up costing more.

A mac air? $2500+, i mean no offence there but it's a bloody rip off.

Don't get me wrong, i enjoy macs, went to a mates house and found myself using iMovie till 4am, both systems **** me now and again, but at the end of the day the PC will last me longer and it's cheaper, whether it's better or not i won't argue about.

PC's just are more flexible for me, i look at it and see a chepaer system that i can change, if that's my teenager tunnel vision opinion, i don't mind, i don't have the budget for a decent mac anyway.

hmmm, interestins points.

But you omit the following:

1) The Mac's are NOT 2 to 3 times the price in general. The new iMacs, which are good enough for many, many people are very competitive for what they come with.

2) Resale value is often higher with a Mac

3) I can almost guarantee, just as was the case with Vista, that most PC's couldn't handle an upgrade of an MS OS. i.e. Most XP PC's won't have the resources to run Vista. My 7 year old Powerbook runs the latest OSX quite happily. I got less than 12 months out of a PC laptop a few years ago.

there's prolly more, but I have to eat something! :^)

Thats what you dont understand Cham. Pc's only claim these days is for gaming, and as we all know with consoles, developers will constantly push their games to the edge forcing the user to constantly upgrade their pc. Perfect example with problem now comes from MS themselves with the need for a fairly decent bit of processing power and memory to run Vista... Where I can still put OSX leopard on a 6 yo mac and still have it run the latest apps.

So why do you need to keep tinkering? There is no need... Lets just hope you got Firewall 400, Firewire 800, Bluetooth, 802.11N built in Webcam etc or else... oh look, more tinkering.

How can you tell it's a lot faster? Specs mean nada. :^)

If you looked at specs alone you wouldn't have thought that the fastest machine for Vista was a Macbook Pro eh?

But we're back to preferences now. I wouldn't touch that PC. I would still buy the iMac. Why? Because of OSX, and the apps that come with it for one. Because my iMac would probably be better for me, financially, in the long run.

But as I said.. it's all personal opinions. At least I have experience to back up my comments, and I don't just dislike Mac's or PC's based on 5 minutes or 3 months of use on either. I use computers for a living, and I need the best for productivity. I feel that Mac and OSX provide that for me.

QFT
Linux is much more stable than both Mac and Windows combined. I have never had Linux crash on me except for the few occasions that I tried to run too many windows apps in Wine (:P). And I am running linux on my DS right now. It runs on everything.

If it wasnt plagiarism (and global spell check... thank you OSX for correcting that and then allowing me to look it up in the dictionary with a simple right click (yes they do exist on OSX)) I would copy and paste everything Texinick has said over the past hour or so. And finally someone who can objectively discuss something..

What did you end up paying for a temporary solution cham?

By the way are we forgetting that linux and OSX are still derived from Unix....

That's funny, I've never heard anyone say that before except when talking about Linux. Not having a go It's just funny cause I've never heard that before.

Yeah Linux is awesome I love it, I still feel it's a while off commercial release due to its harder to grasp nature (all the command line stuff) but when they make a simple flavour for the "average" user it'll do well...especially being free.

haha... and what do you think OSX is built on? Well, not Linux, no, but it came from the Unix world. That's why OSX is so solid and stable, and you can run most of your linux programs on it :^)

DS what you talking about... how can something be free and still be commercial.. think about it! But it will never gain public acceptance for two reason... 1) people believe that it must be too good to be true, so they will overlook it 2) Open source creates issues with no central form of control. All civilisations need rule to progress and grow, but because linux is open source no one can develop the growth.

And I bet you to it Tex!! haha! How about we change this argument... Windows vs Unix!! haha! Clearly Unix is winning here!
