Hi i have just soldered a WII kEY mod chip to my wii. I have re assembled everything according to instructions. Everything works but i CANNOT put a disc into the wii. IT feels as though the the disc tray is "SEALED" and wont feed in any discs. ANy suggestions?

JackAz says:

My only advise to you is to not type your name as the title of the thread.

Seriously now, if you don't know what you are doing - take it to a professional. Have you ever soldered before? If not - that would be your problem. Open it up and check no points are running together.

SEALED? youre sure youre putting it in the right way? the coded side faces the left when you put it in a vertically standing wii

hahahah topic is funny, I was thinking this may be about Friday The 13th - Jason hahah Whoop!, but it was something about stuffing up a Wii

hainaku says:

seriously, why use your name on the topic?

anyway, if you're not putting the disc the right way up as brawlking suggested, then you have botched the soldering. you probably bridged some connection or forgot to reconnect the ribbon cable for the DVD drive.

Have a close look at the way you put the face plate back on. I think you may have somehow put it around the wrong way.

Have you tried searching for that problem on google? I'm pretty sure I've stumbled onto this problem before in one of the other forums.

i thought JackAz gave good advice. Take it to a professional if you don't know what you're doing. Open it up and check the soldering job again. Check that all wires and plugs have been reconnected - the ribbon cable and the power cable under the drive is important.

True point.

He's already come this far, he might as well try to solve the problem.

I just had a thought about that problem. If you've checked your face plate, then re-check your soldering again. I vaguely remember something about not soldering something properly. Oh, hang on, maybe you need to double check that you plugged the ribbon cable back into the DVD drive after putting it back into the Wii.

You should've tested first before reassembling it. That's what I did, for a few days, only because I felt too lazy to put it back together.

Everybody watch out for this guy, his name is Jason Voorhees

Experiencing a similar problem.
Check the ribbon cable and your solder points.

Sorry for the kudos loss. Monolocco is banned again, now that we have catalogued this kind of thing across several threads so that the ban won't be lifted for benefit of the doubt.

Back on topic.

Does anyone know how exactly the CD drive knows when to draw a disc in, anyway? I've been Googling for schematics for self-loading disc drives to figure out how it does it (Wii has one, iMac has one, most car stereos have one) but haven't gotten a thing.
