Wii Hardware \ Got my Wii returned!

Calavera says:

Brand new Wii for me!

It took exactly 3 weeks from the date I sent it in to the day I got it back.

The problem I had was recorded as "graphics artifacts" and my old Wii was simply replaced with a brand new one. I was having the random flashing red/green/blue pixels problem that has been recorded around the world (NOT a cause of overheating by the Wiiconnect apparantly). I tested the new one and it looks brilliant.

Also, I'm now using the Wii Monster Cable Component Cables and the Nyko Wireless Sensor Bar and I'll let you guys now how each of them fare now that I have a console that works.

First impressions - Nyko Wireless Bar provides a much stronger signal and the Monster Cable visably reduces image grain.

Were you the one who started the discussion before about this problem and asking people about it? I'm just curious to know if i'm thinking of the same person who had this problem before...

Good on you mate. It's torture losing a console for a few weeks. I went nuts when I had to send in my 360 last year. I went crazy. I had sent it in exactly 2 weeks before the Wii was released. I picked up my Wii at 12:01am on Launch night, and surely enough, I got my 360 back that day! Tested it for 15minutes then back to the Wii!

Good to hear you got a new one. It sucks when u buy something new and faulty and get it repaired instead of replaced, makes me feel like ive bought a factory second or something rather then the brand new one that you paid for and deserve.

Im interested to hear about the sensor bar, i have a couple of places id like to put my wii where the sensor bar cable doesnt quite reach. If you get the wii tells you that you have to move closer to the tv, is that because the infrared from the sensor bar is too weak? or the signal given from the remote back to the wii is too weak?

I think it's the Sensor bar that restricts the range. Checkout the video section. There's a video of these people doing a wide range of tests with the Wii and Wiimote. Because the actual Wii and Wiimote is powered by Bluetooth, there's a longer range.

You can buy wireless sensor bars for the Wii. This will help you to extend the range of the Wiimote. Or you can use two candles! Hangon, i'll find the video for you!

EDIT: I give up, I can't find the video here. It was call "Wiiperiment".
Here's the youtube link: www.youtube.com/
I knew most of this stuff before I saw the video. Relating to the sensor bar, just follow my advice.

Yeah, phatbass, I was the one who was asking about the graphics problem and 'warranty repair - what do I get back?' and 'how long do repairs take?' threads.

I lost my Wii just as I was getting stuck into MSCF and RE4, and just before Paper Mario was released on VC! I've had my PS3 as a 'backup' but it's a completely different console and offers a completely different gaming experience.

Hiss hiss. Admins, ban him, he owns a PS3! Haha. Joking joking. It helps to have that I guess. I was stuck with nothing, even though I have a crap load of consoles. And my mind was in next generation.

Thanks phatbass, have you seen the vid of playing wii sports in a movie theater? thats what made me think that a good infrared signal would give you heaps of distance and the vid you linked confirms that, sweet is she wearing a lab coat?

edit: heres the link www.youtube.com/

I have a projector, so ill have to get a good third party sensor bar to muck around with

thanks again (sorry to be off topic ).

That's ok. I hate to say this, but I saw one in JB Hifi (when i was scouting for cheap prices to price match at EB Games!). A chuncky, wireless sensor. I think it was under $50. Niko or some japanese third party brand. I haven't seen one anywhere else...

There seemed to be a few on ebay, but hard to know the quality of them, ill have to do some research and i dont think ill resort to candles haha. almost as much of a fire hazzard as a 360

Haha. Candles do work. I had to use them when I was trying the Wiimote on my PC.

As for brands. Keep an eye out for the Niko? one. I know it's the same company that makes the intake fans for the 360.

The Nyko Wireless Sensor Bar isn't available in Australia (yet). I bought it from eBay US. From a few reviews I've read, it was one of the only ones rated as being BETTER than the standard wired bar. I've just moved house and I'm setting up my home theatre as we speak, so I'll give you all some feedback once it's set up properly.

Sorry to double post:

The Nyko Wireless Sensor Bar cost me about AUS $35, which included shipping.
