Wii Hardware \ 9.27mil Wiis sold!, 16.5mil by years end!

Welcome to the 'good old days' where everyone (and there is millions of them) who said Nintendo would never reign supreme again are shuttin thier traps. Nintendo has nearly peaked 10 mil and will easily do so by the end of August. Halo 3 will obviously boost 360 numbers, especially if the rumoured US$50 price cut is true. Nintendo could afford to drop thier machine to the magical US$199.95, but with Smash Bros, Mario Galaxy, Battalion Wars 2 and Prime 3 all out this year, it'll sell like hotcakes anyway. They are expected to sell 22 million Wiis by the end of March '08 It would have been out for about 1 yr 3 month at that time and at that rate would sell 100 million after 5 years....not including a price cut. Obviously any price cut would boost it even more. I wouldn't be surprised to see Nintendo sell 150 million Wii's before the next console.

which means sony is pretty much screwed rite? 360 is barely holding its position rite now, and analysts dont forsee any significant jump in any other console sales besides nintendos

A 360 price drop is imminent, bringing the Core 360 to the same price as a Wii. You can expect a massive jump in sales from that, especially with Halo 3 being close to released. A lot of Xbox fans have waited to buy a 360 when Halo 3 comes out, now they will be given a price drop too. Nintendo will still come out on top of the total worldwide sales by the end of September i would estimate, but the race is tighter than you think.

tight race? Nintendo has done really well to catch up after a 12 month head start from microsoft.

Nintendo hasn't had a console selling game on the wii yet (well, in Australia at least) in my opinion, and there'll be more people waiting for SSBB, Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 than Halo 3.

I expect the Wii to pass 360 by August 12 or 19th at the latest depending on Nintendo's shipments.

HOWEVER, recent information says that Xbox 360 will get a price drop on the 8th of August, maybe the 12th so this catch-up may be short lived.. it's going to be a close one but it will definitely happen in August.

Nintendo is kicking arse this generation.

As well as X-mas is coming up, and also battalion wars 2, not to mention other 3rd party games, I think that would make a lot more people waiting to buy a Wii then a 360.

Yeah from all reports I have from a friend who is an EB manager here in Qld, Sony is seriously bleeding billions of dollars worldwide with the PS3, and this sort of info means nothing to an EB manager! They will sell you any product at all, that's their job!!

There will always be peaks and lows throughout the gaming industry but a company like Nintendo who put home console gaming on the map worldwide will always hang in there against the competition. Nintendo going nowhere even if the success of the Wii could somehow turn out to be shortlived, however I personally doubt this.

I consider zelda to be a console selling game, apart from the fact that it is avaliable on gamecube i spose.... but i think a lot of people are getting a wii that wouldnt go near a gamecube.

xbox still seems to be kicking ass in america, I spose that will be where a lot of third party support would come from to?

Good job calling me an 'idiot' when you don't even know what you are talking about...

Wii is currently less than 600,000 consoles behind the Xbox 360 globally... it is selling 80,000 a week in Japan and US roughly that's 480,000 in 3 weeks leaving just 120,000 to sell in Europe during that time, and we know that it's rather easy for all of europe to sell 120,000 when its selling at roughly the same pace as the US.

Taking into account 360 sales, it is selling roughly 35,000 a week in USA and 3,000 in Japan which gives them an expected 100,000 in the same time as Nintendo will sell 480,000 in US and J.

Then there is the issue of the new-release games in quite a few regions which Nintendo around the globe seems to inject a larger amount of stock for... the release of Mario Party 8 in Japan will likely give that week up to 150,000 units for that week, and the release of Mario Strikers Charged in the US will probably see a similar situation - what really controls whether it is the 12th or the 19th is the amount of stock that Nintendo injects into the market in that time.

So before you call the 'idiot' take a look at your facts. If you are going off Xbox 360 'shipped to retailers' numbers and not 'sold to consumers' then you are the person that should be taking the claim of 'idiot'.

Quite honestly I don't think you were 'pwned' Foetoid is very 'convincing' but I'll argue through the teeth that Wii will overtake 360 World Wide during August.

The price drop will help, but not as much as to stop the Wii from overtaking in August... it's only $50 US.

MY GOD. I just corrected Zoidberg. If the 360 has sold 11.6 million worldwide, which Microsoft recently announced blogs.techrepublic.com.com/ and Nintendo has announced they have sold about 9.3 million au.wii.ign.com/

Basic Maths 101:

11.6 - 9.3 = 2.3 million

I don't know where you get off calling me an idiot, but it seems you pulled the 600,000 units number out of your fat ass. Use your head. Don't come here thinkin you can correct me when you know nothing. They are 2.3 million behind the 360 and the 2 links i JUST posted prove it. Where do you people get your 600,000 units number. Nintendo has been consistantly selling about a million units per month, and would take about 2 months to catch the 360 at this rate, from now, making it the end of Sept at the earliest. I'll say it again, your an IDIOT. Try to also remember that VGChartz is a guesstimate website, the only numbers that matter are official numbers. Since there is no tracking firm like NPD for Europe, the only actual factual numbers we have to work with concerning worldwide sales are the 'sold to retailers' numbers from the people who make the console which are 11.6mil: 360 and 9.3mil: Wii.
