not yet, but i've read of homebrew software being developed to play dvd's, most likely a gamecube boot disc to boot the program and play dvd's...

Oh yeah, definately. It will bump the Wii price up. I knew a simple add-on is not possible for the Wii, especially since the Wii is missing the Dolby Digital certification, which is required to have true 5.1 channel sound...

Mmm...i heard that too. I think it depends on the actual DVD drive in the Wii. I don't think it is capable of playing dual layer/double layer dvd's (which are what most movies are burnt on to now a days).

I reacon you will have to upgrade if you want to watch movies. I don't see Nintendo having an add-on for the Wii. I think it will end up being like the gamecube "Q", where it was a Japan only release.
