According to a number of people who have send in thier Wii's, because the fan in the Wii turns off during Standby mode, the Wii's GPU is becoming damaged and causing problems displaying some games. I don't use my WiiConnect24 anyway, so i'll be turning mine off now.

Yeh thats a good thought.

Its dangerous to leave it on when your sleeping as you dont know whats happening and it could cause a fire or create sparks. Also, If you leave your wii on standby, It wastes electricity.

Just use the damn machine, if anything happens, send it back to Nintendo. There's no point worrying. If it does stuff up, then it does. If you just start turning the console off entirely, then if there is a fault, you could delay it too long to the point where it will be outside of warranty to fix!
