Wii Hardware \ Standby Mode is damaging Wii GPU's

Foetoid says:

forums.nintendo.com/

According to a number of people who have send in thier Wii's, because the fan in the Wii turns off during Standby mode, the Wii's GPU is becoming damaged and causing problems displaying some games. I don't use my WiiConnect24 anyway, so i'll be turning mine off now.

I leave mine on standby but I have a after market base with a built in fan, which initiates when the system is on standby, comparing the difference in temperature, with fan on and fan off you can actually feel the difference just by touching it.

So have all these people experiancing graphical glitches due to an overheated GPU. If you really don't use standby mode, no point risking it.

Err i think Nintendo would have overlooked this problem while making the system, especially since it has the WiiConnect24.

Yeah they're not bad, I got the Playmax one, fan+stand+funky blue glow, the fan is quiet but you can still hear it. For less than 20 bucks you can't complain really.

This is just nonsense. I'm just wondering where people actually keep their Wii's. Seems like they put them in some crowded hole for no ventilation.

Yeh thats a good thought.

Its dangerous to leave it on when your sleeping as you dont know whats happening and it could cause a fire or create sparks. Also, If you leave your wii on standby, It wastes electricity.

"Its dangerous to leave it on when your sleeping as you dont know whats happening and it could cause a fire or create sparks." - Its not dangerous....you won't die, mate. The whole sparking thing won't happen unless you have it on and chuck it in water or you like stab the cords and/or Wii Console.

Dangerous??? what about your TV, DVD player, Fridge, Microwave, Alarm clock, etc.. I'm sure you stay awake all night thinking about that and the Wii uses bugger all electricity when on standby anyway.

Bah, why have Wiiconnect if it's going to screw up the Wii. I smell paranoia in the wind. It's starting to get to the stage where people will say you can only have the console on for 5minutes of gameplay then turn it off to cool down for 5 hours. What a joke. Just use the damn machine, if anything happens, send it back to Nintendo. There's no point worrying. If it does stuff up, then it does. If you just start turning the console off entirely, then if there is a fault, you could delay it too long to the point where it will be outside of warranty to fix!
