Wii Hardware \ Wii Console - Facts, Tips, and Secrets

hainaku says:

I have compiled a few bits and pieces of facts, tips, and secrets found on the web regarding the Wii Console. You may have seen some of these already, in fact some are old stuff, but this list is also for those who are new to the Wii. The list is not of any particular order and is intended to be fun and trivial. Hopefully this can be stickied for future reference. You can post your contributions here and I will update the list. Let me know if there are any mistakes so I can correct them.

[1] Maximum Miis in the Mii Plaza: 100
[2] Maximum Friends in List: 100
[3] Maximum Miis in a Parade: 10,000
[4] Maximum photos in the Photo Channel: 1000
[5] Maximum JPG file resolution: 8192 x 8192
[6] Maximum Quicktime file resolution: 848 x 480
[7] Supports MP3 audio. If you add MP3 files with your photos on an SD card then you can change the background music during the slideshow.
[8] Uses a 24-hour format clock (eg. 1pm is displayed as 13:00).
[9] Calendar displays dates up to December 2035.
[10] Recommended distance for using the remote from the sensor bar: 3 to 8 feet.
[11] Some virtual console games only work with the Classic Controller.
[12] Sunlight and various light sources can affect the Pointer operation of the remote.

hainaku says:

[13] Adjusting the speaker and rumble settings affects ALL remotes currently connected to the Wii. Hopefully everyone likes the settings...
[14] Parental Controls do not affect access to Gamecube games.
[15] By Law, Nintendo may monitor information that you send or receive via the Wii messaging feature.
[16] The blue light around the CD slot indicates a new message is waiting to be read. If you don't read or open the message, the light stays on. Oh yeah, the remote also chirps.
[17] While the Wii is powered off, press any button on the remote. The number of LED that lights up will indicate how much battery charge is left.
[18] The Wii comes with a small plastic that acts as the sensor bar's stand - did you throw out yours?
[19] Placing the sensor bar upside down does not reverse your Wii movements.
[20] You can save Virtual Console games to SD card.
[21] When downloading a Virtual Console game from the Wii shop, Mario runs across the screen. If you get a Fire Mario you can press the A button to shoot fireballs.
[22] The Wii has 2 USB slots and internal wireless card.

hainaku says:

[23] The covers for the Gamecube controllers slots are removable.
[24] In the Photo and News channel, grab the cat (if you can) that runs across the screen to display some tips.
[25] Hold down button 1 to get a 194 piece puzzle in the Photo channel.
[26] The Wii dims your screen (burn-in reduction) as soon as the Wii remote shuts down.
[27] You can send a maximum of 20 Miis a day (you can get around this by changing the date on your Wii).
[28] The Wii costs approx US$158 to manufacture. Of course this becomes lower as cheaper materials become available over time.
[29] The Wii can communicate with the DS via wireless connection (Pokemon Battle Revolution is the 1st game to utilise this feature).
[30] Some games which operates using only accelerometer-based pitch and tilt data, could be played without the Wii sensor bar (eg. Excite Truck).
[31] The Wii-mote has a special chip on board which is designed for voice processing applications, which is currently not used.

[25] The Wii costs US$158 to manufacture.

I have to wonder how accurate that is. The technology is ancient, it is prety much overlocked gamecube hardware with more ram and a TINY 512mb of memory. Also if the production costs were that high, and they had to sell them for maybe US$180 to make a profit (and i know they are making some profit on the console) then by the time distributors, transporters and retailers add more cost, it should be more than the US$250 Have you got a link for that info, because if it's true, it may be a little while till we get a price drop unles they drop to US$199.95 in response to a Ps3 price drop.

here are a couple of links that mentioned Wii manufacturing costs as being $158: kotaku.com/
www.engadget.com/

that's just for the console though, not including remotes, etc. i think Nintendo makes around $40 profit per console.

Maximum Miis you can have = 100
Maximum Friends you can add = 100

So potentially you can have 10,000 Miis in your parade.
