OK. A chipped wii can go online in all variants (Shop, Opera, Games). It cant be detected at this stage.
Apart from a botched installation you can avoid your wii being bricked simply by having the most recent update installed on your wii. Regularly check online in various forums (not this one) such as afterdawn before playing your copied/downloaded game. There is a program that will tell you the region of your wii ISO before burning it, dont trust the source of the download as they will just put PAL in the title so you download it. Your wii gets bricked when a game from a region diff to yours tried to update. NTSC updating a PAL wii for example.

The only reason MS can do something is because the chip on the Xbox changes the firmware of the console and can be detected. The wii chips at the moment dont and cant be detected. All they do is play with the DVD drives firmware.

Mod chips will be blocked someday but in a week or 2 the companies of the chips will prob figure a way to bypass that blockage and come out with a new update for their chip. It happens all the time and it will never stop happening... Thats why we have technology ... U either use it or abuse it

Oh and as for Games with updates, some of the ones i know of are Paper Mario(NTSC), Mario Strikers(PAL), SSX Blur(?). I think there are quite a few others to. Also with a chipped Wii some games will not work at all. Ive heard that Mario Party 8 and Trauma Center are a couple and i know from personal experience that Bleach doesnt work.

dudes to get rid of the update situation on ISO's there is a program that gets rid of the updates before you burn it, and as for NTSC problems briking your Wii, there is also a site that lets u know wat NTSC u can and can play on a PAL Wii with a Chip... problem solved

Exactly. Google is your friend Johnny. I havent tried the progs yet but ive read there very good.

Make the games cheaper.

I'd pay $50 for a game. That is reasonable....and you noticed how well EB's midyear sales are when you can get 360 games for $50. They sell heaps at that price.

I'd even pay $70 for a worthwhile collectors edition with nice big thick manual.

The updates you need to worry about are on the disc not from the net. As far as i know if you answer no then the game wont play. The best way to protect is just to run a system update from the wii's settings before putting a new games from another region.

Although the problem we have now is that the updates are different for each region. we have 2.2e and i think NTSC have 2.2u.
