He would have been able to get $8 from eBay if he followed through eBay's protection. eBay takes $25 out of whatever you lose. At least that was the amount before, they may take more or maybe even less (doubt it) now. Haven't eBay'd in quite some time.

Yeah, that's my job. Well no actually, I use to help a lot of people on the eBay community boards. Also use to go around looking for scammer auctions and report them. Gave that up as eBay are quite slow with dealing in such.
