Dead Space Extraction General Discussion

EA have managed to successfully bring the Dead Space Franchise to Wii. Ditching the 3rd person survival horror for a guided 1st person experience (on rails shooter) that delivers sharp shooting action that focuses on narrative as much as it does strategic dismemberment.

A number of retailers led by EB & Big W have broken the street date and released this one a bit early, I picked up my copy a while ago and am having an absolute blast with it.

Haven't tried this game yet but "strategic dismemberment" sounds interesting.

That's the hook, you can't just blast away at the torso, you need to take off limbs to disable the necromorphs.

The game engine that they built for this game is fantastic and special mention needs to be made of the lighting system which is not only a good technical achievement but helps create one of the most atmospheric games to ever grace the Wii!

On rails shooters are not everyone's cup of tea but this is easily one of the best I've played.

Is it as frightening as the first person experience?

Not really due to the fact that there is nearly always one or more NPC in tow.

It's definitely got a sense of tension and urgency though.

But not many 'check your shorts' moments

Next trip to shops I'll grab a copy if I see it, I have the guns from the Big Bang Box I'm assuming they will work comfortably with this game?

Yeah, in zapper mode you could get away with it, but you're really just better off with remote and chuck in hand. It uses quite a few buttons.

Shoot with B
Kinesis and interaction with A
Stasus with C
Reload with Z (gears of war timed style reloads too) =]
Weapon select with the analog stick
Chuck shake for melee
Wiimote shake for glow sticks in dark areas

"Wiimote shake for glow sticks in dark areas" That's actually is a good idea for added interaction that makes sense, how many times have we had a "shake the WiiRemote to dodge" *shakes head*

In regards to using the HOD guns I do hope I can get a little more use out of them with other games.

A number of reviews - IGN, Gametrailers, etc. - have given a good rating for this title. Looks like I'll be picking this up.
Oh, Dossaer, have you played this one at night with the lights off and the sound system turned up? I've played 'Dead Space' on X360 just this way, and it was more 'scarier' than playing it at daytime.

Haven't cranked up the dolby at night yet as I'd wake up my little girl and end up with a very grumpy wife... that would be scary!

It's definitely not as scary as Dead Space but it's still very tense at times. Leading up to the release of this I played a bit of Dead Space again and watched Downfall (can you tell that I'm a Dead Space nut?) and can safely say that the mood and feel is just right.

It really is a fantastic game!

Guyver I had a go with the Zapper and with the HotD Hand-Cannons, both work well enough but I still prefer and recommend the standard Wii-mote and 'chuck controls.

I bought this but I still cant get into it. I've seen all the great reviews but it's too slowly paced for me!

If you're just playing on normal, crank up the difficulty for more enemies, more aggression. Also be sure to play the challenge modes: no story, just action!

Yeah the challenge modes are more my thing. I must admit I was expecting something more like House of the Dead but I won't give up on it just yet!

I've just about upgraded all the weapons. I need to go back and pick up/find a few upgrades.

Then it's all highscore chasing in the challenge modes for me! This and HotD: OVERKILL are two of the best light gun games ever made and two of my favourite Wii titles. They both appeal to different sensibilities but do so in style.
