anyone else just watch the game?

honestly, those umpires are seriously a disgrace. they call something at the end of the game that is identical to what has been happening the rest of the game, where nothing was called.

god i hate them... *tries to find Denor's disgust picture*

Last free kick was there, stupid by Rutten, Anthony wasn't really in a position to mark so it wasn't needed at all. Generally there's a bit of a Vic bias though. Ray Chamberlain is the only consistent AFL umpire.

I'm not arguing whether or not that free kick was there, but HONESTLY. If it was there in the last minute, why was it not there every third time we went in to our attacking fifty up to that point in the game?

I only watched the last 10 minutes of the match so I don't know what they were like during the rest of the game, but at least there was a free there and it wasn't given for no reason

Tippet got one a few minutes earlier, what was that for? All-in-all I thought the umpiring was generally pretty good. No stupid holding the balls, which is always good. I saw a few 80m 50s, but besides that it was decent.

Tippet got the free because the tackler was over his shoulder and at his neck - it was probably a slight overreaction but the fact that it was over the shoulder means it was there.

There was one stupid holding the ball which turned things around a bit, actually. Again, a very inconsistent call. McLeod was tackled and handballed the ball as soon as he came into contact with the ground but it was still called holding the ball.

In many similar tackles that the Crows did no free was awarded.

I don't disagree that the umpiring is inconsistent, but tonight was very good by normal standards.

I blame the AFL not the umpires. They're part time and go back to their day job for most of the week. Get serious AFL and get a few full time umpires. Even if it's not all of them at least 1-2 per game could be full time. Surely they'd be able to do more training, more practice, review more taps, get better at making these decisions.

I think umpires in AFL have heaps to deal with. Then again, there is quite a few of them compared to other codes.
