Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Has Hal Labrotories Achevied Perfection? - 10/10
Super Smash Bros. Brawl has finally reached store shelfes (well at least in Japan and the U.S.A.). people have lated after numerous delays and waiting. When it came out I ran in to Gamestop and left it in a hurry and ran to my Wii just waiting to play my first brawl.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl is finally in my hands. The amazement I felt the first time I played it, i thought it was as amazing as getting the last Golden Ticket or winning the lottery. During my first versus match I played I was an awe. The graphics are better then any other Wii game I have ever played. Its graphics are just as good as Halo 3 on the 360 in terms on how good it could possibley be. It is truly over the top.
Super Smash Bros. brings a line up of Nintendo's best (as well as a certain speedy hedgehog and weapon experteise) into the face of battle. Each has numerous attacks that go along well with his or her personality and attacks from their best games. They also each bring a life-threatning move into the battle with the use of the smash ball.
It brung everything that made Super Smash Bros. Melee great back. It took out everything bad away. as well as improved its average features like the Adventure mode and multiman melee (now multiman brawl). The biggest step was taking melee's small 5-15 minute adventure mode and brought in the Subspace Emmisary. With cinematic cutscenes, new enemies and altering plot twists make this better than an average stand-alone adventure game.
The Subspace Emmisary links togethers the stories of many characters who meet other characters and all their stories link to eachother and they all get together. It is like your standard 2-D side-scrolling platforming game. Similar to a Kirby or Mario Bros. Game. It introduces new characters like the Ancient Minister and the Primids. As well as classic Mario enemies like the Hammer Bros., Goombas, Koopas and Bullet Bills. It wasn't the longest Adventure game I've played . Although, its still impressive among others and one of the many great things about Brawl.
It reminds of games like Kirby 64 and kingdom Hearts. With all the crazy crossovers and meet ups and matchups it has a bit of similar basic backdrop. In Kirby 64 you'd start with Kirby and the fairy, then a waddle dee would join you, then the painter girl and last but not least King Dedede. In Kingdom hearts you meet more Disney chacters as you proceed.
Gameplay is really sparkling and understanding. Like other Nintendo games you go through levels, defeat enemies, collect prizes, solve puzzles, and have fun. Another thing I like about it is Nintendo's trademark thoughts. With crazy things like minecarts and boosters to give you a boost. You also face a handfull of new foes that were made exclusively for this game.
Cutscenes play the background story for the game that gameplay doesn't. There is about an hours worth of cutscenes overall. The cutscenes are very amazing and look like you are watching a movie. They range from cool, to funny and to plot changing scenes and there all understandable.
There is a heck load of songs on this game as well. There is over 300 songs and there is more songs than you could fit in a i-pod shuffle. From classic themes to remixed versions, or just all out new songs they are all prettey neat.Famous video game composers and musicians lend their hands for support so you won't miss out hearing classic Nintendo tunes.
The stages are all unique and are fun to play on. Some have amazing scenery. Others change from day to night. Cameo appearances appear on some stages, Metal Gear Ray and Metal Gear Rex appear on the Metal Gear Stage and The Citizens of Animal Crossing appear in Smashville to watch the brawl. As for others they change the flow of the battle and some have different landing areas.
Do you want to make your own stage or make a stage similar to one that didn't the cut the stage builder has you covered. Fans of Sim City or if you just want a new stage to play go on ahead and get started. You can add stairs, blocks, platforms, trenmills, springs and all sorts of things to make your stage fun. Afterwards. Name your stage and give it a comment. Then choose the music for the stage( although you can always do that first). You can even share your stage via wi-fi.
Trophies return and their is a massive collection for you to build. Getting all 600 trophies will take a while to do. A massive collection of characters, items, veichles and stages return with a vivid descripition and a unique character model. You can also organize your trophies to make a picture in the trophey hoard.
Stickers are a new addition with another massive collection for your to collect. thnere is over a 1000 stickers to collect. Although, unlike trophies, stickers don't have a description and are easier to come across. You cna just admire them. Or you could go to the Sticker Center and organize them to make a picture. Stickers also come to good use in The subspace Emmisary to Power up your characters.
To unlock more stickers and trophies you can play the new Coin Launcher mini-game. In mellee you would bet your coins in a despenser and the more coins you put in the bigger chance you got a new trophey. Although, now you now have a gun that fires coins instead of bullets. Fire them at enemies for a bigger chance of a trophy appearing. once it does fire away and claim your ptize. If you do well you well get a sticker bonus ore more coin ammo.
All-Star is a game mode you unlock after you unlock all characters. In melee you would face all enemies in a random order and finish off with a round of fifteen mr. Game and Watches. Now things are more organized. You now face charactrers in the order their series debuted. So you'll star with Mr. Game and Watch, followed bye Mario and his pals, then you face Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong and so on.
Stadium modes return with Target Smash, Homeroom contest, multi-man brawl and the new boss battle mode. The best part is that you can do all these in co-op. Co-op target smash and multi-man brawl is the same as the regular versions but just with a buddy. Although in co-op homerun contest both player smash the sandbag and one also sends it flying with the baseball bat.
If your up to a challange check out the new boss battle mode. Face of against every boss from the Subspace Emmisary and master and crazy hand as well. You only have one life so do each battle with caution. The only upside is that you have three hear containers that clear up all your damage so use them wisley.
One of the most anticapated modes and best parts is Wi-fi battles. It works the same way as a standard match by yourself but with people from far distances or rivals you haven't even met yet. You can even do stadium modes over wi-fi modes to meet up with friends and have a good time.
Items play a huge roll. Some items you need to race for because they can be the difference between life and deah. If a smash ball appears run and make sure your foe doesn't get it. although, A skilled player can always dodge an attack or send something right back at them. Even if your opponet is glowing from the smash balls power you cna knock out of them with some force before they unleash and have a second chance to grab it.
A homerun bat is also useful. If you can charge it up and can do some good timing. Your opponet will fly far even if they have minimum damage. This item also does a lot of damage when thrown.
Although an item your really need to worry about is the new Dragoon item. Branching from Kirby Air Ride after someone gathers all of its parts. You aim with the cointrol stick and the ship will slam into an enemy and send them flying. No wonder it is called the legendary air ride machine.
Hammers also do massize damage and make you temporaily invincible (since you swing the hammer so fast). Although it can flop by its tip falling off ot it being a squeaky toy in disquise.
Explosives like Bomb-Ombs and Smart bombs can also be an item to run for. Be aware if your not the one holding it stay out of they way so you won't get caught in the crossfire.
Helpers from Pokeballs and Assist Trophies and can also change the flow of a battle. The'll cause havock on your opponets and the best part is if they damage smash balls you'll get its power.
It would take a while for me to name each item. So make sure you know how to use each one and can use each one to an advantage.
So now I'll cut to the chase
Graphics: 10/10
Smooth, Colorful and Clear. Very detailed characters, stages snd items are easy to make out.
Sound: 10/10
Hundreds of original and remixed songs that will be music to your ears.
Concept: 10/10
Bring the best Nintendo characters of all time together to aquare off and show who's the best.
Voice Acting: 10/10
Nintendo isn't well know for voice acting but when they need a character to talk they can make them shine. High Quality voice actors from Star Fox and Metal Gear Solid len their voices to supply us with about over 38 minutes of inbattle cutscens. There is even some fair voice acting for just Diddy's monkey shreiks and Mario's wahoo's.
Gameplay: 10/10
As simple as it sounds this game is very addicting. You'll want to play as every character, every stage, every trophey and so on. It goes over expectations for a fighting game and a goes over expectations as a Nintendo game.
Playability: 10/10
You can choose from four controllor options to your liking. If thats bnot good enough you vcan alter the can controls to what you'll do best with.
Replay Value: Insanley High 10/10
This is great for a party or when you have a friend over. Theres millions of people to meet on Wi-Fi. As well as that you can also go back to get every trophey and sticker (that will take a while).
Overall: 10/10
If it was humanly possible I'd give it an 1000000000000000000/10.
Tips
- Don't use the smae move too much keep a good blance. Your attacks will eventually get weeker and your opponets can predicyt your moves.
- When youtr playing as Snake, Pikachu, Wario and Diddy you can crawl to stay on low ground and keep moving forward. This is also good for dodging projectiles.
- Divivng is a technique not revealde on the dpjo that can be useful. Wall running and a quick press of the attack button your chaacter will dive into the ground. It does decent damage for a hit and can help reach items.
- When against a character like Snake you can gave them a taste over their own medicine. If Snake throws a grenade it will blow right away so you can grab it and throw it right back at him.
- If you have a charged special move use it as soon as you got the chance. Unless if it can stick with you like the giant punch or aura sphere do it when you got your opponet like a sitting duck.
- Avoid traps. So stay out of the way of guest characters like the Bullbborb on Distsant Planent or The Ultimate Chimmera on New Pork City
- A Helping Hand. In modes that allow Co-op like The Subspace Emissary and Boss Battle mode and you have a buddy with you I would reccomond putting it in action. It will get work done faster and it might be a bit more easy if your struggling.
- Explore All areas in The Subspace Emmissary. It will help you find prizes like Trophies and C.D.'s. it will also improve you score and hekp you finish entire Subspace emissary.
- As Metaknight, Charizard or Pit you can glide if you hold down the jump button your character will start moving forward. Choose to go either up or down but you can't turn back so use it carefully.
