Audio vs Video

Just throwing it out there, which would you prefer to have? Say for example you only have "x" amount of dollars to build your gaming/movie set up and "x" was only enough to get either a nice TV and a average stereo or an average TV and a nice surround sound set up. Ideally it would be nice to have a balance of the two but if the situation was forced which way would you go?

I'm a bit of an audiophile my self so I would probably go for the average TV plus nice sound option.

Seeing as I currently end up playing the Wii without sound due to my current audio connection being dodgy I think I'd prefer better audio

I love music. Listen to it everyday but I have never been one for "surround sound" and 5.1 or 7.1. I don't care if I can "feel" the volcano erupting. I hate it when TV/movies are too loud.

I've got an average TV so I'd go a TV upgrade.

Man. I've seen that crisp, wafer thin LED in JB. I can't believe the size of that plasma either!! I think it's all the SAMSUNG series 8 stuff.

I sell Magnolia Home Theatre products ( REALLY high end stuff)

the way we explain it is this, say your watching a scary movie with no sound on a 50" high end tv.....the guy could jump out, run at the person, or the person could creep around....but with no anticipation music, loud screams, background noises...the movie would suck no matter how good the picture is

then picture yoruself with a really good sound system and no picture. You would hear anticipation music...keeping you on the edge till you hear the LOUD frightful music out of no where making you jump, hearing footsteps from every corner of the room making you feel like part of the movie

Just picture hwo the differences would be and you see clearly that a mediocr TV with a really nice sound system is better....all on preference of course I would actually prefer better video and mediocre sound system but to me a good audio setup is a must no matter what

Video > Audio.

Reason: you can still play games with no sound, you can't play games with no picture. So, video is the operative aspect of a game and sound is just there to complement it. Great sound won't help you spot the distant well-hidden sniper
