i just played the game
you select where you want to hit it when the bowler is charging
and then the swinging of wiimote is only for timing
its not like if u play cover drive... itll be a cover drive

Sadly you are right, during the tutorial I must have just been swinging the remote the way the shot was going. Played a One Day match and like you said it's only for timing. The only way to influence the shot direction is by moving the batsman and the shot arrow. I think I will play a game more before I comment next time.
