GameStop Execs Expect PS3 & Wii Price Drops this Year
Executives at retailer GameStop, or EB Games in Australia, believe that the PS3 will finally see its much needed price cut before the year is out. Not only that but the retail giant expects price cuts to both the PS3 and Wii to counter declining sales.
Analyst Arvind Bhatia, of Sterne Agee, is the one who came to this conclusion after a meeting in which GameStop's executives discussed their predictions for the remainder of the year. Of the two consoles the general consensus is that the PlayStation 3 is in desperate need of a price drop; while Nintendo aren't too phased by the slowing of Wii sales as they believe stronger software towards the end of the year will pick things up again.
Earlier this week Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision, said that they may have to stop supporting Sony due to the decline of software sales and expense to produce games for the platform. It's seeming more and more likely by the day the Sony will be forced to lower the price of the PS3 before Christmas this year. It seems unlikely that Nintendo would chose to do the same at this stage considering their Wii and Microsoft's Xbox 360 are already much cheaper than the PS3.
