Fox McLoud is the protagonist in the Star Fox series. His first appearance was made in 1993 in the classic Star Fox on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

After a successful Nintendo 64 title (Star Fox 64, AKA; Lylat Wars), Fox was featured in his first role that did not exclusively take place in a c0ckpit.

Fox has also made it to Nintendo's most successful handheld system to date; the Nintendo DS where he is accompanied by his best friend and companion, Slippy Toad, along with other long known friends and foes. This adventure still sports the well known style of play with a twist of turn based action also.

Fox has been featured in other video games aside from the Star Fox series. He first made his out of series appearance in Super Smash Bros. (Nintendo 64) and a second appearance in Super Smash Bros. Melee (Nintendo Gamecube) with a number of other Star Fox characters who also made it into the game.

Although still unannounced, Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto has expressed interest in a Star Fox game for the Wii console. This suggests that Star Fox fans will soon see the development of a brand new Star Fox game for the Nintendo Wii.

Samus first appeared in Mertoid in 1986 on the NES. Created by Gunpei Yokoi and his team when developing the title Metroid for the Famicom Disk System / NES.
Unsure of the sex of her to start with the ads and manual for the game described her as a male. She made a breif apperance in Tetris on the NES if you pass the game you would of seen her playing a Cello.

She has appeared in over 12 games so far and these have included Super Mario RPG, Kirby games and the Super Smash Brothers Series.

In Japan, Birdo is known as Catherine. Nintendo of America initially called him a guy like the Japanese games, but later censored him to a female.

Mario is a video game character created by Japanese game designer Shigeru Miyamoto and is the official mascot of Nintendo. Because of the common reference to him and his brother Luigi as the "Mario Brothers," it has been speculated his full name is "Mario Mario," and in certain non-game sources (comic books, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, and the Super Mario Bros. film), as well as Nintendo of Europe's Mario Megasite, this is the case. However, Nintendo of America stated in the 1980s that Mario and Luigi do not have last names.
Mario and Luigi are both Italian plumbers. According to the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Mario and Luigi are from Brooklyn.
Mario is considered a 155 cm (a little over five feet tall) portly Italian plumber who lives in the Mushroom Kingdom. He is well known for constantly messing up the plans of the evil King Bowser to kidnap Princess Peach and save the Mushroom Kingdom. He has a greedy doppelganger by the name of Wario.
As Nintendo's mascot, Mario is considered to be one of the most famous characters in video game history. The Mario series of video games has sold more than 193 million units, making the Mario series the best-selling video game series of all time.

Pit is loosely based on Icarus and Eros, figures from Greek mythology. The clothes that he wears and the fact that he is an angel resembles Perseus, Bellerophon and Hercules the latter also being an archer.

Pit, as a character, was created by the late and great Gunpei Yokoi and the first game of which he was the main character was released in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System under the title of Kid Icarus. The concept originally came from the story of Icarus, the Greek myth about a man who created wings, learned how to fly but flew too close to the sun. It is said that Pit is a combination of Perseus, Bellerophon, Hercules, Icarus and Eros who are all characters from Greek mythology; this is according to Gunpei’s production notes on the game. Mario is thought to have communist propaganda due to many reasons.
Luigi was originally a exact duplicate of Mario except colours.
Birdo's first apperence was in a game called Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic
Yoshi's two creators were Shigefumi Hino and Shigeru Miyamoto.
Baby Mario is voiced by Charles Martinet
Wario's name came from a blend of the words warui (Japanese for bad) and Mario, hence meaning bad Mario.

Toad is a humanoid mushroom in games of Nintendo's Mario series. Toad is the general collective name of the "Mushroom People" found in the Mushroom Kingdom, who are a sapient, anthropomorphic mushroom race, with a peaceful, human-following monarchistic culture. It is believed that the English name originated from the word "toadstool" (just as the original Japanese name comes from kinoko, meaning "mushroom"), though the English name may also be construed as a variant of the word "toady," a loyal follower. Like other characters in the Mario games such as Yoshi, Toad is both a unique character called "Toad" and a specimen of an entire, homonymous race. The Toad species first appeared in Super Mario Bros., in which they were called merely "Mushroom Retainers". In later games prior to Paper Mario, which featured an entire race of Toads inhabiting Toad Town, the capital of the Mushroom Kingdom, manuals referred to them as "Mushroom People". The unique character Toad is also a servant of Princess Peach.

Yoshi

The great Yoshi was born Between 1990-91, thus making Yoshi between 16 and 17 years old. However, originally considered back after the original Mario Brothers was made. In real terms Yoshi appears to be around 16-18 years old. Yoshi was created during the time of the great snes, Yoshi was created by the great and only Satoru Iwata.Yoshi hasn’t always been like yoshi, originally, his features resembled much more of a dinosaur, having a long neck, small arms, and a wider back (conveniently for Mario to ride on.) Also he has small spikes from head to tail. According to Satoru Iwata, Yoshi "ended up looking like a dinosaur ... because something like a dinosaur was the shape which was allowed by the (Super Nintendo hardware's) technical limitations.

Yoshi's speak only one word when talking and that is "Yoshi". For that matter, all of their names are Yoshi as well. The only way to distinguish their words is to simply watch for hand motions and perhaps tone of voice when they are speaking the word Yoshi.

Fox McCloud
He was created by Shingeru Miyamoto and designed by Takaya Imamura. As his name implies, he is a fox(although anthropomorphized), and the main protagonist of the series. According to the Star Fox 64 Player's Guide, Fox's image was modelled after the Japanese god Inari's foxes (kitsune), although they are white while McCloud bears Red Fox markings. Fox usually wears a red "scarf" around his neck, much like the statues at the Inari shrines.
In Star Fox 64, while playing in Expert Mode, Fox wears black sun shades (much like his father). He also wears them in the Good-bye, Fox ending in Star Fox Command.
In the F-Zero series, there is a character named after Fox's father, only this James McCloud is human, but he wears a similar uniform to Fox's father, has similar black sunglasses, and his hair resembles Fox ears. The F-Zero version of James is the leader of a flight squad called Galaxy Dogs, a possible parody of Star Fox. It is said in F-Zero GX that James has a wife and young son to support. It is unknown if this young son is Fox.

Wario-

Wario is obviously a take off of Mario. Wario was founded in 1992 and made his first appearance in the GameBoy Colour game: Mario Land 2, The golden coins. The creator of Wario was a Japanese man by the name of Hiroji Kiyotake. Wario has the opposite of Mario's attributes. Wario made 2 rare appearences in the film 'Robot Chicken'. Charles Martinet is the man who voices' Wario in english and Hiroshi Otake,
Chikao Otsuka are the Japanese Voices'.

How Wario was created.
In a nutshell R&D1 hated creating Mario games so they created Wario which represented R&D1’s situation.
At Nintendo there are two development groups which were designed to compete against each other. The first was named Nintendo Research & Development 1 (R&D1). Shigeru Miyamoto actually started out in this group but after the success of DK, he was granted his own team called Nintendo R&D4.
Mario and Zelda became Nintendo first major evolution. R&D1 was delegated to support the Game Boy, while Shigeru Miyamoto's group on the Super Nintendo home console.

…. Later on

R&D1 reduced in size in favor of the growing R&D4 but the team was now FORCED into developing Mario Land games, attempting to recreate Miyamoto's successes on the gameboy. While working on the Mario Land franchise, the team even managed to create Nintendo's anti-hero named Wario and sway from using the character (Mario) they had no creative passion for. Wario Land became Nintendo R&D1's big hit. It continued the excellent level design of the Super Mario Land series but now with a character that was not created by Miyamoto and instead a character symbolizing R&D1's situation.

Birdo, known in Japan as Catherine, is a fictional, anthropomorphic dinosaur-like creature featured in Nintendo's Mario series of video games. Nintendo has never made the exact nature of Birdo clear, appearing as both a particular character and a species of character, just as Yoshi from Super Mario World can refer either to a class of video game dinosaurs or a particular one. Birdo first appeared in the Japanese game Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic as a minor boss appearing at the end of many of the levels. Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic was later remade into Super Mario Bros. 2 for worldwide release, later known as Super Mario USA in Japan.

Kirby!

Mr. Masahiro Sakurai had the project of making a new Gameboy game, one where any player of any ability could reach the ending. During the production, he would need to create a dummy, the dummy he created was a funny smiling blob that soon became the star of the game. He was originally planned to be named Popopo, with the game called 'Twinkle Popopo'. Then later he became Kirby, and the series in Japan was called 'Hoshi no Kirby', or 'Kirby of the Stars'.

Kirby's Abilities:

In Kirby's Adventure he gained his signature Copy Abilities. Now when Kirby swallowed special enemies, he could copy their powers, such as Fire, Sword, Wing, Wheel, Freeze, UFO (You get the idea).

In that game, Kirby's color would change to show he had an ability. It wasn't until Kirby Super Star/Fun Pack that he started getting hats with each ability.
