Wii Hardware \ Wireless Wii Woes

I went to update my Wii this morning after hearing about the News Channel, but it was slow as hell. So I brought out my laptop to the living room to compare internet speeds. I used a connection tester from the internet, and found that my laptop's speed is cable, which is right, but on the Wii it's slower than dial-up! What is going on?!

Help, please. If you need details about where my router is place, what brand it is, etc., I'll be more than happy to tell you if it can fix my problem. x_X

you explained it in your own post.

the update for the news channel is making the nintendo servers under a huge amount of load.

happens every friday and when a big update comes out.

A bit of an update. I moved my Wii right next to the router, and it's updating much more quickly. Will I have to do this everytime I update? I can send emails alright, and accessing the internet is very average, but weather is alright... Will I even be able to play online games in my living room? ._.

How can I extend the range of my network?

go hard wired and forget the wireless

i have ordered the LAN adapter even though I can use my wireless router - there will be no dropped packets.

i know that a router will always run faster than the internet can, but comparing a wireless laptop to a wired PC, videos and other streaming just seem to be better and dont buffer. wireless just drops too many packets.

my house is all wired up with cat 5 cables running from room to room internally to the walls.

you can buy things that act like a relay...just plug into a powerpoint, it picks up the weak signal then relays it much stronger giving you a better signal. dick smith has them im pretty sure

A specific name for this thing would be nice. If I can get one, I'm sure it will help.

And nah, I'm not going to get a wired connection. The computer is too far away from the TV, and I'd need a huge cable. And plus, I bought the router for the Wii, so I'm not going to let $68 go to waste.

I still haven't got a solution. xP

Out of interest, how far away is your router from your Wii? How many walls in between?

the $68 router is prob whats the problem, what router is it, (juat give me link to a specs page on the net). i got a d-link atm, much better than my old more expensive belkin which was prob the crappest thing ever made imo.

lol thats pretty funny, i got the same one .

shouldn't have any probs with it, unless you have lead in your walls or a really long house. what do you have around your router like certain electrical devices can interfere with transmission.

Well, I moved it just then on top of my printer. Before it was next to a TV and above a set top box (it's a small TV just to watch the news and Simpsons, so no Wii in this room ). I'm pretty sure the TV would cause problems, because it stays on standby, while I'm pretty sure the printer is fully off when it's not being used.

Sometimes it doesn't work though... it's confusing. I think my Wii might be right on the edge of my network coverage area... =/
