yeah that is true, but when applying for a job they prefer exp and when ya finshed ya uni course, you will stand in line at the dole office becasue you have none. unless your one of the lucky ones who got a cadetship, while the guy who went out got a trade for 4 years working in the mines, then work there way up was approached by their mate the mine manger asked them to go to uni and bhp will pay for them..

yes their jobs in the mines for uni students but how many job are available compare to the amount of uni students unless you are willing to travelled to the middle of no where.

i have a diploma in management and tried to get a job in that area for years, but having no exp. its impossible. unless ya worked in that company for years then worked ya way up. or once again one of the lucky ones that get a trainee mangementship that the company will pay for you to go to uni.

for being almost 30 years old soon i learnt 'its not what ya know its who ya know'

They would of had a trade to be working at bhp for starters, then work thier way up unless they knew "someone" then giving the opp to go uni while being paid..

unless ya not the son or daughter of the boss, ya have to work ya way up.

asked anyone who works in a large company, if i wanted a management job where i work, i have to wait till some one retired or dies it just the way of life.

I guess it depends on your definition of being paid well. We have just gone from two incomes to one (mum's home with bub) I'm finding it harder these days to service the mortgage pay the bills, put food on the table and still have a little fun.

I was thinking of going back into the private sector to chase $$$.

As for getting into a public service type of role; all government jobs are merit selection. You have to know how to write a good application and how to perform in an interview. You don't really need to know how to do the job as long as the application and interview go well.

And I'm starting to believe that getting some 'real life' experience is more important that a prestigious University degree. I'm just gonna try hard to find some work experience!!

Ain't that the truth. The same goes for government sector nursing applications beleive it or not. I had to really scrape through the selection panel to even get a job at the hospital (I'd been rejected from 2 other hospitals before that). The ones who breezed through the process don't know one end of a thermometer from another.

That's 24 hours a day for 365 days a year for three years...

OMG That's 26280 hours at $20ph OMFG that's $525,600.00
