i think thats really stupid to ban games. i mean come on... a game with more blood isnt going to turn your people into killers lol . the real only diffrence between a M (R18) rating and a T game is more blood and mabey more vilence, and cursing. a game so a game with a little blood and killing is ok but when they start cusing and theres a lot of killing and blood it isnt ok? i think its gay but whatever. i dont think they should ban games unless its like a REALY bad game.

ManHunt was banned i think
but i got my hands on a copy and its great
its really good i enjoy it tons
a really bad game is something like SilentHill (its not that bad)
but honestly after playing nearly EVERY PS2 game ive never seen a Game on ANY console thats been that bad to be Banned.
i mean honestly its kinda stupid once you think
about it.
if they have to ban it it must be pretty bad.
and the buyers have a choice of getting it or not dont they ?

Cheers

They don't as such ban them here, they refuse them classification. Because Australia in all its wisdom, has no R rating for games, games which would fall in this catagory are refused classification and thusly they're effectively banned :/

The whole debate about games turning people into killers is just parents refusing to take responsibility which is the trend of the 21st century (though it definitely started in the 20th).

But yes I totally agree with you, they shouldn't be banned they should just be rated R.

EDIT: Disregard all of that I just realized you're American lol well at least now you know how it works over here ...worse.

Yes, but you're also not reading deep enough. The idea that violent games normalise violence may not be entirely true, but they do routinise certain actions.

The basic mechanic of an RPG like Final Fantasy is to find monsters and kill them, and when you do you are rewarded with experience, items and money. You might even choose to do this for hours to develop a character.

Now take Super Columbine Massacre RPG, inspired by the school shooting. Its battle interface is similar to early Final Fantasy games, but the monsters are replaced with unarmed school students, and your benevolent heroes are replaced with idiots who congratulate themselves over kills. But you know how this game mechanic works; find enemy, kill enemy, be rewarded. And so you know exactly how to make your hero attack a student because you've played games like this before, and perhaps when this student dies and you get experience, you might not bat an eye because you've killed thousands or hundreds of thousands of Final Fantasy monsters in exactly the same circumstances.

Does it make you feel bad to be murdering unarmed civilians and not sand worms? And if it does, why are you compelled to keep playing just because you are being rewarded and developing your character?

Anyone Should be able to have the option to buy
whatever game they suit with.

if not its against the odds
and its totally ridiculous
so what its 15+ or R18
honestly if the child/adult is mature enough
and have the ability to buy it with
parental control then they should have the ability to
play it with no problems.
unless there some brat who is totally immature.
unlike me im 13 turning 14 in 16 days and i started playing
mature games when i was 6 years old

I don't think I would like a world where the only game we could play was tetris or solotaire.

Violence in games is as natural as breathing.

I'm completely ok with them really cracking down on people buying and hiring these games because I think we all know they don't, never in my life have I been asked for age verification for games, movies anything. Hell I've been asked for ID buying alcohol a total of twice (must be my awesome facial hair! Which I've had since I was 16 not 18..).

But banning them? Bleh! Just enforce the rules properly. If they really want to argue a game can turn a normal person into a mass murderer then what the hell is wrong with them? Yeah games could desensitize people, in fact they probably do, but theres a giant leap going from one to the other...

Just playing devil's advocate here... you don't get to blow the limbs off of the aliens with an array of different realistic weapons and admire the blood splatter.

Personally I'm not into Censorship but I'm not one-eyed enough to completely disregard both opinions.

I'll join you in being the devil's avocado. I remember when Manhunt (I think it was Manhunt) came out, there was tons of controversy because of the methods of killing, and how people perceive it.

I vaguely remember an episode of Law and Order (SVU iirc) about a bunch of kids who played this PC game where you could just walk up to randoms and beat the crap out of them and mug 'em etc. I forgot what the case was though. I think it was a similarity between the game and a crime.
