deBlob - 9/10
Having read a few good previews of deBlob game, I've decided to utilize weekly special at BigW ($59.95) and get this game to check it out.
A colorful Chroma city has been invaded by INKT Corporation, which painted the whole city in dull grey color. Your job is to bring the colors back to Chroma city and get rid off INKT Corp. soldiers.
While the story line sounds very simple, game is filled with cute cut scenes, great humor, attention to detail and decent learning curve that add to game appeal. Game is 3D based, with camera angle continuously rotating around your blob. For novice gamers, this might initially be a bit confusing, however you will quickly get used to this and actually appreciate the way camera works, as it makes game flow somewhat faster.
Controlling your blob utilizes both WiiMote and Nunchuck - if you played Super Mario Galaxy, controls will be very familiar. Nunchuck controls the movement of blob, while WiiMote is used for jumping and pressing buttons.
After good introduction, where fellow blobs explain what has happen to Chroma City as well as what needs to be done, the initial level (Last Resort) is quite easy to master and is a great introduction for later levels that are far more challenging (ie. tanks, ink turrets).
There is no multiplayer over Internet available. There are a couple of simple multiplayer games available for up to 4 people (Paint Match, Blob on the Run and Blob Race) with limited long term appeal.
Graphically, game is a showcase of what Wii can do. Image quality is sharp and colorful on my 32" LCD TV, animation is smooth and I never noticed a drop in frame rate, even though quite a few things are happening on screen. Sound effects are really good, voices are funny and will appeal to younger audience. Music can be customized and most of the tunes are quite groovy.
If you liked Super Mario Galaxy, this game will suit you perfectly. For the (current) price, this game is a great value.
