General Wii Overview - 10/10

Already outselling it’s counterparts by making it’s long awaited comeback, Nintendo has forced it’s counter parts into damage control, with the wildly popular release of the Wii.

We've all heard console companies promising innovation and revolution, but until the Nintendo Wii hit the shelves, we've never really seen that promise for-filed.

Steering away from the traditional method of game play, Nintendo almost literally puts you in the game via a little something called the 'WiiMote'. This little nifty piece of hardware relies on physical movement to control your game play, thus requiring you to literally make a bowling motion if you're playing bowling, a baseball swing if you're playing baseball, and various golf movements if you're playing golf.

The Wiimote itself isn't exactly your traditional gaming controller, resembling a television remote control more than anything. While managing to somehow remain lighter than your typical controller, the Wiimote is an absolute pleasure to hold.

Nintendo has also begun steering away from it’s usual range of games, targeting the more ‘hardcore’ gamers, boasting it’s arsenal of new releases, such as Red Steel and Need for Speed Carbon.

The Wii itself is capable of using the latest WiFi technology and effectively does so by allowing gamers to download titles off previous Nintendo consoles. Aside from that, users can interact with each other via messages directly over the console and even have the capability of easily browsing the internet.

Who ever said Nintendo wasn’t capable of packing a punch?

Brownstone said: I don't think it has outsold the 360 yet. And it's not called the 'Wiimote' it is called the "Wii remote". Wiimote is just a nickname.

But yeah, if it had better graphics it would get a 10 from me, but even though gameplay comes first that extra icing on the cake would have been nice.

Hence the quotation marks.

Everybody in my family loves the Wii. Everything is so easy to use. We've played Wii Sports for days. When friends and relatives come around, I'm a little reluctant to firing the Wii up because I know that they'll be there for hours and hours. This is the gaming console for non-gamers.

Anyone getting a Wii in 12 months time isn't going to have to think hard in order to justify the investment. At the moment however, there just aren't a lot killer titles availables. Considerring that Twilight Princess, a game originally designed for the Gamecube, is the systems biggest seller, Wii owners aren't going to see the full gameplay potential of the system until at least midway 2007.
