Paper your world with Mario - 9/10
Who hasn't play a Mario game of one form or another, on one platform or another? I remember spending hours and hours with Super Mario World on the GameBoy all those years ago... so frustrating, but impossible to put down.
This game takes that world and injects with a breath of fresh air and the added bonus (at least to a fan of the genre, like me) of RPG elements.
The game is cute and colourful. Bright, bright, bright graphics complement a nice 3D world in which 2D characters(who are basically bits of paper when they turn sideways) go on a strangely familiar adventure.
Sure, the storyline is ultra-basic and a carbon-copy of every other Mario game in existence (well, pretty much anyway), but it is still... well, fresh, to keep using that word.
All your favourite characters are there, and all the familiar elements, but everything is just so new and different that it is comparable to looking at a fish swimming in the water, and then swimming with that fish in the water. The player, so used to that side-scrolling world, is now thrown full-tilt into the Mario world and it is gorgeous.
The game is easy to pick up, with a handy in-game tutorial to ease you into the action, and the simple fun of playing the game will keep you coming back for more.
