GT Pro Series - Controversial? - 8/10

........... I think not.

Look, the main problem with Grand Touring games today is they fall into two distinct categories:

1. Gran Turismo Series.
2. The Rest.

If you can ignore Gran Turismo and rate racing games on their merit, the mixed signals/reviews would lessen i'm sure.

Whats the game like i hear you ask? Well, without further ado..........

It's quite obvious that GT Pro Series has borrowed heavily from Gran Turismo and a lesser known PS2 title, Auto Modelista.

The menus and game setout is pretty much Gran Turismo, you begin in the entry-level series and race to win Gold, Silver or Bronze trophies.

By finishing in the top3 at the end of the particular series (ranging from one make, 3 race series like the Toyota Vitz cup, to unlimited car series in which any car is entered), you graduate to the next level series.

By winning races you unlock various vehicles and tuning parts, which get better as you win the higher ranked series.

The gameplay borrows heavily from Auto Modelista, with the obvious cue being the cell shading, giving the presentation a real cartoon feel to the graphics, which i might add is a refreshing change to the real life rendering, graphic whore look for Project Gotham 3 on the XBox 360 or GT HD on PS3.

The controls are quite responsive and relatively easy to get a handle on. Suprisingly, the WiiMote turned on it's side seems to be easier for the novice to pick up as the included steering wheel from UbiSoft, while light, is quite thick and can confuse early on in the learning process. Once used for a while though, the wheel is very comfortable

The Drift Combo mode is very challenging indeed, and i have yet to master that side of GT Pro Series.

The various tracks in each level each have their own challenges, and if you happen to make an error, usually you are punished as the pack is never far behind.

So far i am currently halfway through the intermediate level of the game, and i am really enjoying the challenge of GT Pro Series. I understand that the game has copped a hiding in most review and Wii related forums, but as a racing game fan i felt that the game had a unique appeal that i would enjoy........ and so far it has exceeded my expectations.

Nice review. I might have to pick this up since I am a huge GT fan and have passed the demo on PS3 and PGR3 takes too long to load.

Cheers brother So did you enjoy the time you had playing it? What did you think of it?
